Manila, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III is still not sold on the idea of amending the Philippine Constitution.

“Sana mapakita ang dahilan kung bakit kailangan nating palitan ito,” he said during an ambush interview after the change of command ceremony at Fort Bonifacio.

The President said amending the constitution, which is the “bedrock” of all other laws, will most likely result in short-term “disruption.”

“Sulit ba yung disruption na iyan sa anticipated benefits?” he asked.

Aquino said he was still not convinced that amending the constitution is necessary to improve the country’s economy.

He even made an example of China, which did not allow private ownership of land but managed to reach high levels of growth.
