Bill filed for creation of Mindanao Railways Corp.

MANILA, Philippines – Cagayan de Oro Representative Rufus Rodriguez and his brother Abante Mindanao Partylist Representative Maximo Rodriguez Jr. have filed House Bill 3055 that would create the Mindanao Railways Corporation (MRC).

The MRC will operate railroads, tramways, vessels, pipeline and other kinds of land transportation in Mindanao, the lawmakers said in a statement Friday.

A railroad system, the lawmakers said, would shorten the distance between Zamboanga and Cagayan de Oro or Davao and Cagayan de Oro.

The MRC will be exempted from paying taxes, the bill added.

The Rodriguezes cited the advanced railroad system in Japan, Canada, United States and European countries where people and goods were transported at the lowest cost.
