LPA-induced rains in parts of PH to continue through Wednesday—Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines—The state weather bureau said that the low pressure area (LPA) hovering over Butuan City as of early Tuesday showed no indications of intensifying into a tropical depression, although it will cause moderate to heavy rains in parts of the country.
“Mindanao and the regions of Bicol, Eastern and Central Visayas will experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides,” the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Benjie de Paz of Pagasa said the rains would likely continue until Wednesday.
The LPA has induced floods and landslides in Mindanao, killing 20 persons as of Monday, mostly in areas devastated by typhoon Pablo (Bopha) in 2012.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon continued to affect Northern and Central Luzon, as a result of which Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon provinces), Mimaropa (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan provinces) and the rest of Visayas will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms, according to Pagasa.
Pagasa said Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will be cloudy with isolated light rains.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and the Visayas and coming from the northeast to northwest over Mindanao.
The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough.
Strong to gale-force winds associated with the northeast monsoon are expected to affect the seaboards of Northern Luzon, eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, the seaboards of Southern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of the Visayas.
Fishing boats and other small seacraft were warned not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels were alerted against big waves.
