Only 7 out of 282 lawmakers have net worth below P1M

MANILA, Philippines—As of end-2012, the Congress of the Philippines has remained the domain of millionaires, with only seven lawmakers having a net worth below P1 million.

Of the 282 members of the House of Representatives during the 15th Congress, 275 (97.5 percent) had a net worth of at least P1 million.

None among the senators had a net worth below P1 million.

Boxing champ and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao was the richest lawmaker, with a 2012 net worth of P1.77 billion.

Then Sen. Manuel “Manny” Villar, whose term ended last year, posted a net worth of P1.4 billion in 2012.

Based on the lawmakers’ 2012 statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN), the House had one billionaire and 274 millionaires, with 217 lawmakers worth P10 million or more.

Of the seven House members with a reported a net worth of less than P1 million, the poorest was Anakpawis Rep. Rafael Mariano, whose net worth was P92,507.15.

In the Senate, none of the senators reported having a net worth below P1 million in their 2012 SALNs.
