MANILA, Philippines – Rain in parts of Mindanao may result in flooding in low-lying areas as a low pressure area moved closer to the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the state weather bureau said Friday.

Portions of Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin Island, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, Davao del Sur and Misamis Occidental will have light to moderate with occasionally heavy rains for up to three hours, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in a 4:30 p.m. bulletin.

The low pressure area was last observed 1,010 kilometers east of Southern Mindanao Friday afternoon, Pagasa said.

“The regions of Caraga and Davao will experience cloudy skies with moderate to ocassionally heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides,” Pagasa said.

Visayas and the rest of Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

The LPA is expected to enter PAR in the evening. If it intensifies, it will be called “Agaton.”

The northeast monsoon continues to affect Northern and Central Luzon, which will also bring rains there.

“Cagayan Valley and the province of Aurora will be cloudy with light rains,” Pagasa said.
