MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) cautioned participants of the Black Nazarene procession of the structural integrity of MacArthur Bridge in Manila, Inquirer Radio 990AM said on Sunday.

The report quoted DPWH Undersecretary Romeo S. Momo saying that the bridge, which is included in the procession route, already bore cracks. Like last year, only its south bound lane will be opened for the procession.

Momo said repairs on the bridge, which is up for retrofitting, would start in April.

He urged participants not to stay too long on the bridge and to avoid overcrowding.

Last year, the DPWH warned devotees that MacArthur Bridge might not be able to support the large crowd, in addition to the possibility of people falling off the bridge.
