Man accused of rape commits suicide

TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte – A man accused of raping his step-daughter committed suicide in his home in Asuncion, Davao del Norte, the police reported Friday.

Chief Inspector Miguel Seguido, Asuncion police chief, said Gilbert Campos, 25, was found hanging by the neck past 5 p.m. Thursday.

Seguido said Campos’ relatives reported seeing the victim drinking alcohol before they found his body.

“The victim reportedly looked devastated,” he said.

The authorities had sought Campos after the daughter of his  live-in partner, an overseas worker, filed a rape complaint against him.

Seguido said investigators  suspected that the complaint was what drove the victim to commit suicide.
