But our patrolling officers were able to arrest him and that was when we discovered the high-powered guns,” said Senior Superintendent Renz Ortilla in Filipino.

Among the weapons retrieved from his vehicle, which was left open, was an automatic rifle with silencer, a .22 caliber revolver with silencer, Glock 9-millimeter pistol, Beretta .22 caliber pistol with silencer, a “defaced” gun, knives, a hammer, a taser, three grenades, and anti-riot smoke grenades, among others.

Southern Police District Director Jose Erwin Villacorte said they have yet to verify the man’s identity but found a driver’s license of a certain Jerry Sy in the vehicle. Other identification cards found were an SSS ID and a Resorts World Platinum membership card.

In the meantime, they sent people to the Bureau of Immigration, as well as the Resorts World, to check if the man is a foreign national and if he has a room at the hotel.

Villacorte pointed out that gun silencers or suppressors were illegal in the country and even policemen are prohibited from using such.

He said they believed the man was a hired assassin.
