Public school teacher abducted in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A grade school teacher was abducted here on Tuesday afternoon by armed men, the military said.

Colonel Andrelino Colina, commander of Task Force Zamboanga, said at least 10 armed men abducted Cathy Casipog, a teacher of the Sibogtok Elementary School in Limaong Island, at around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Limaong Island is about 83 kilometers away from the mainland.

Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesperson of the Western Mindanao Regional Police Office, said Casipog “was dragged by more or less 10 fully armed men and was forced to board in one of the two motorized bancas heading towards the direction of Eleven Islands.”

Huesca said that one of the sea vessels had a white “Sangali” marking.

Sangali is an adjacent village of the Eleven Islands.
