TRUCK RAMS TREE: 4 injured
Four were injured when a truck they were riding rammed a tree in Camp 6, Barangay Manipis, Talisay City yesterday morning.
SPO1 Elmer Saladas of Talisay City Traffic Division said the Mitsubishi Fuso Canter, driven by Jimmy Baculi, of Sudlon, Cebu City, was heading to Barangay Tabunok.
Baculi had nine passengers when the brakes of the truck reportedly malfunctioned.  Saladas said that Baculi was forced to steer the truck towards the tree to prevent them from falling into a cliff as they were negotiating the downward slope of the road.
The injured including Baculi were immediately brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC)./Gabriel C. Bonjoc

DRUG STING BUSTED
An alleged dealer of Nubain, a regulated painkiller, escaped from police in a buy bust operation in barangay Pit-os, Cebu City Friday night.
But the companions of Onel Codilla identified as  Elger Bontuyan, 30, and Steven Pamador Velasquez, 35, were arrested after they were allegedly caught having  16 ampules of nubain and syringes in their possession.
The City Anti-Illegal Drugs Operation Task Force headed by Eunil Balili Avergozado conducted an operation after some officials in Pit-os tipped them off  of the  rampant sales of nubain in the barangay.
Onel allegedly took over the illegal nubain business of his relative, described as nubain queen, who passed away few years ago.
Avergonzado said Onel immediately escaped when he noticed the presence of the police. However, the police will still be filing charges against him.
Avergonzado said they planned to conduct a symposium in the baranagay to educate residents on the ill effects of nubain. /Correspondent Chito O. Aragon

Driver shot by ’beggar’
A habal-habal driver who refused to give P2 to a mendicant  was shot and injured yesterday dawn in barangay Quiot, Cebu City.
Victim Jose Cleofard Daño, 45, of Sitio San Roque sustained a gunshot wound in his left thigh.
He is confined in the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).
The gunman was only identified as a certain Arning of Sitio Mayupay.
Initial investigation conducted by the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Police (CPPO) revealed that while Daño was waiting for passengers, Arning approached him and asked for P2.
He refused to give as he had no coins.
The suspect, who was apparently irked, left.
Moments later, he came back and shot the victim.
Daño managed to run towards his house and asked for help from his relatives who brought him to the hospital. /Correspondent Chito O. Aragon

2 injured in Christmas party stabbing
Two men who tried to pacify a group creating trouble in a Christmas party were stabbed Sunday night in barangay Looc, Lapu-Lapu City.
Victims Jared Ortega, 39, of Sacred Heart Village in barangay Gun-ob was wounded in his right arm while Rodel Deligas, 21, of  Barangay Looc sustained a stab wound in his neck.
They were rushed to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital which suspect Ronel Montesclaros, 25, of  barangay Looc was arrested in a follow up operation.
Investigation revealed that prior to the incident, some youngsters were involved in a trouble with another group while attending a Christmas party.
The victims came to pacify the two but Montesclaros allegedly stabbed the victims.
He fled but was arrested by pursuing policemen in their house./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
