5.7-magnitude quake hits Davao Oriental

MANILA, Philippines—A 5.7-magnitude quake shook Davao Oriental Wednesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the earthquake occurred at 7:58 a.m. Wednesday, 57 kilometers southeast of Mati, Davao Oriental, with a depth of 52 kilometers.
The United States Geological Survey earlier recorded a 5.5-magnitude earthquake, 1 kilometer east northeast of Tibanban, Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.
Phivolcs Science Research Specialist Ric Mangao said over Radio Inquirer 990AM that they updated the quake’s magnitude from 5.5 to 5.7 after they received and analyzed the waveform data.
He said there is no threat of tsunami in the affected areas.
Phivolcs said the tectonic earthquake was felt at Intensity V in Davao City, Mati in Davao Oriental, and Toril in Davao Del Sur; Intensity IV in Digos, Don Marcelino and Malita in Davao Del Sur; Intensity III in Butuan City, Kidapawan City, Tagum City, Panabo City, Compostela Valley, and Matanao in Davao Del Sur; Intensity II in Cotabato City, General Santos City, Koronadal City, San Francisco in Agusan del Sur, Polomolok in South Cotabato, and Alabel in Sarangani.
