NAGA CITY, Philippines – Four policemen were wounded early Saturday in Caramoran, Catanduanes, when a band of New People’s Army rebels ambushed their patrol car in the village of Mabini.

Major Angelo Guzman, spokesman of the Army’s 9th Infantry Division, identified the wounded policemen only as Police Inspector Bea, Police Officers 1 Payonga, Brutas, and Bagasbas.

Guzman said an ensuing firefight with the NPA rebels lasted for about 30 minutes before the guerrillas fled.

He said an Army unit was in hot pursuit of the rebels.
