Cebu Customs collections exceed Oct. goal
CEBU Customs (BOC) leadership row did not stop the Cebu port from exceeding its target collections for the month of October.
The Port of Cebu collected P815,439,558.09 for the month of October which is above its target of P754,582,000.00.
One of the factors of the high collections is the import of machineries by Cebu Toledo Power, said Paul Alcazaren, Bureau of Customs officer-in-charge.
Alcazaren said he had yet to finalize the exact amount that Customs collected from Cebu Toledo Power.
The Customs Bureau is also conducting inventories on confiscated goods or abandoned items that can be auctioned.
He said that there are some containers of rice that they need to inventory too.
“We are still waiting for the 30-day period for the owners to claim these containers,” he said.

If these goods will not be claimed within that period, these will be declared as abandoned.
“If it is already abandoned then, it will be inventoried and then it will be sold in a public auction,” Alcazaren told Cebu Daily News.
Alcazaren resumed his duties as Customs Port of Cebu OIC last Oct. 22 after lawyer Lourdes Mangaoang, stepped down from the post she headed for a week.
Mangaoang contested Alcazaren’s appointment and claimed that she was the senior official of the Cebu office. Alcazaren gave way to her after Customs Commissioner Rufino Biazon withdrew Alcazaren’s appointment after the court granted the temporary restraining order filed by Mangaoang and other Customs officials.
