153 nabbed for violating liquor ban

MANILA, Philippines – Over 150 persons were arrested for violating the liquor ban as barangay elections commenced on Monday.

Philippine National Police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Wilben Mayor said that as of 7:40a.m., there were 153 persons arrested for violating the liquor ban.

The liquor ban was implemented on October 27 until October 28, the day of the elections, as per Commission on Elections Resolution 9715.

Meanwhile,  a total of 593 persons were arrested as of 6a.m. for violating the gun ban – 551 were civilians, six government officials, five from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, seven from the Philippine National Police, three from the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit and 21 security guards.

Confiscated were 492 firearms, 18 replica, 194 bladed weapons, 68 grenade, 289 other explosives and 4,059 ammunition.

The gun ban for the barangay elections started on September 27 and would be until November 12.
