DOJ summons ‘gift bomb’ suspects

MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday summoned the mother and her son slapped with a complaint of murder and frustrated murder for the death of “gift bomb” victim Yvonne Geraldine Padilla-Chua and injury of her 6-year-old daughter.
Respondents Arlene and son Arnold were asked to appear before the DOJ on Nov. 12 to answer the complaint filed against them.
“You are hereby warned that failure on your part to comply with this subpoena shall be considered as a waiver to present your defense in this preliminary investigation and the case shall be considered submitted for resolution based on complainant’s evidence only,” the subpoena dated Oct. 21 stated.
Chua was killed by the gift bomb that was sent to her on Dec. 29, 2010 in Taguig City.
In 2011, the same charges were filed by the PNP Southern Police District (SPD) against housemaid Rhea Coroza Dalde, then 23 years old, the one who allegedly brought the gift to the Chua residence on Dec. 28, 2010.
