Truck, train collide in US; 1 dead, 2 dozen hurt

CHARLESTON, West Virginia — Authorities say a logging truck collided with a train taking passengers on a tour of fall foliage in the West Virginia mountains, killing one person and injuring 24 people Friday.

A preliminary toll of more than 60 injured initially reported by authorities following the accident was revised downward by a hospital official, Tracy Fath. She told The Associated Press Friday evening that dozens brought to a hospital by bus were found unhurt, though an official earlier reported they had lesser injuries.

The cause of the accident between the truck and the Durbin & Greenbrier Railroad train wasn’t immediately known.

Two passenger cars overturned in the accident Friday some 160 miles (257 kilometers) east of Charleston at Cheat Mountain, said emergency services director Shawn Dunbrack of Pocahontas County.
