Arrest warrants out for 13 cops in Atimonan ‘rubout’

MANILA, Philippines—The regional trial court of Gumaca in Quezon province released Friday the arrest warrants for 13 policemen involved in the infamous “rubout” in Atimonan last January, Radyo Inquirer 990AM said.

Justice Secretary Leila De Lima confirmed that Judge Maria Chona Pulgar-Navarro of Branch 61 on Friday ordered the arrest of the following suspects in the multiple murder complaint:

  • Superintendent Hansel Marantan
  • Superintendent Ramon Balauag
  • Chief Inspector Grant Gollod
  • Senior Inspector John Paolo Carracedo
  • Senior Inspector Timoteo Orig
  • Senior Police Officer 3 Joselito de Guzman
  • SPO1 Carlo Cataquiz
  • SPO1 Arturo Sarmiento
  • Police Officer 3 Eduardo Oronan
  • PO2 Nelson Indal
  • PO2 Al Bhazar Jailani
  • PO1 Wyran Sardea
  • PO1 Rodel Talento, aka Rodel Tolentino.

The court recommended no bail for their temporary liberty.

The Department of Justice on Friday filed the charges against the 13 policemen for the alleged killing of “jueteng” operator Vic Siman and his 12 companions on January 6.

On the other hand, the DOJ dismissed the murder complaint against Calabarzon police chief Superintendent James Andres Melad and 11 soldiers for insufficiency of evidence.  With Erwin Aguilon, Radyo Inquirer 990AM
