Cop, brother figure in shootout

A rookie policeman and his older brother figured in a gunfight in barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City.

PO1 Teresito Jermin Ligan, an operative of the Special Weapons and Tactics team of the Mandaue City police, was shot in the right leg. His brother Teresito was wounded in the head.

Investigation showed that Teresito Jermin and fellow policeman PO1 Jerome Encallado were patrolling on separate motorcycles yesterday afternoon when they received an alarm in sitio Kalubihan.

When they arrived at the place, Teresito Jermin said that his brother fired shots after arguing with his wife.

Police said Teresito Jermin confronted his brother who was allegedly the first one who fired shots.

Police said Teresito Jermin was shot in the body but the policeman was protected by the bullet-proof vest he was wearing.

When the smoke cleared, the two brothers were both bloodied.

The policeman was taken to the Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City. His brother was brought to the the Eversley Hospital and was moved to the Dr. Ignacio M. Cortes Hospital in Mandaue City.

Recovered from Teresito’s possession was an unlicensed .38 revolver with three empty shells and three bullets in its cylinder.
