MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III flew to Zamboanga City on Friday as the standoff between government troops and Moro National Liberation Front entered its fifth day on Friday.

“The decision to leave was made last night upon discussion with people on the ground,” said Strategic Communication Secretary Ricky Carandang.

Aquino left for Zamboanga at 7:30a.m.

Military spokesman Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala, who is in Zamboanga City also confirmed they were also expecting Aquino there.

INQUIRER.net earlier received military reports that Aquino was scheduled to arrive in Zamboanga City as early as Wednesday evening but was cancelled “on the last minute.”
