ALA boxers KO foes in Idol TV series opener

ALA Boxing Gym’s Melvin Gumban and Mark Vincent Bernaldez knocked out their Indonesian foes in the maiden run of the Idol boxing series held at the Escalante City Stadium in Escalante City, Negros Occidental.

Gumban impressed his hometown folks after knocking out John Bajawa at the 2:21 mark of the seventh round.

Gumban utilized the ring and used superb speed and power punches to overwhelm Bajawa each round until he saw an opening at the seventh round for the kill.

Gumban now has 15 wins with seven knockouts and no loss while Bajawa suffered his fifth loss against 11 wins, six via knockouts.

Bernaldez, on the other hand, needed only two minutes to dispose of Marangin Marbun via a vicious knockout. Bernaldez remained undefeated as he earned his 10th win, seven by knockouts.

Also, the undercard bouts all ended by way of knockout.

Richard Barrios scored his first knockout win over Ryan Canillas while Kim Galon floored Rico Eugis in the second round. Japanese Kazuma Ejiri also won by knockout over Jerome Baja while Raul Yu downed Diomedes Semella in the opening round. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
