Man dies in Mactan bridge fall

A man in his 30’s died after falling off the old Mandaue-Mactan Bridge at dawn yesterday.

It was however not clear if the man jumped voluntarily or not.

SPO2 Marcos Noval Jr., investigator of Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) of Mandaue City police said that the man didn’t have any identification cards with him.

But the man has an abstract tattoo in his upper left arm.

Police initial investigation revealed that past 3:00 am, residents living near Ouano wharf, barangay Looc, heard a loud splash in the sea.

When they checked it, residents saw a man struggling to swim.

Two witnesses, Samuel Villaganas and Paul Lauron claimed to responding police that they tried to rescue the victim.

But moments later, the man’s body was already seen floating in the seawater.

The cadaver was brought to Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes for autopsy to determine if there was foul play in the incident.

Hubby who shot wife faces parricide

PARRICIDE charges were filed before the Regional Trial Court in Cebu City against the 25-year-old construction worker who shot dead his wife during an altercation last week.

William Labrador Jr. will be facing trial after the Cebu Provincial Prosecutors’ Office found probable cause to elevate the charges against him in court.

No bail was recommended.

When presented before the prosecutor, Labrador chose not to avail of a preliminary investigation which could have given him a chance to submit his counter-affidavit.

Papuan in drunken rampage nabbed

A Papuan national was arrested by police after he went berserk and disturbed his neighbors in an apartment in A.S. Fortuna Street at dawn last Sunday.

Police said that Noel Kusanan, 19, was screaming after he got drunk, disturbing his neighbors who called for police assistance.

Kusanan is a native of Papua New Guinea.

When police arrived in the area around 4:00 a.m., the suspect failed to show his identification card and passport.

The Papuan tested positive in the alcohol test conducted in Mandaue City hospital.

Kusanan is now detained in Casuntingan police station for violating a city ordinance for drunkenness.  /Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos

 

Family wants doctor investigated for death of child

THE family of a 4-year-old boy who was rescued along the coastal waters of barangay Putat in Tuburan town are complaining against the attending doctor after he died in the Tuburan Distric Hospital.

Police said that Chris John Ledres was swimming at a public beach with his aunt past 11 a.m. last Sunday when he took in water but was rescued.

The child was immediately rushed by his relatives to the hospital for treatment.

Police said that the physician Dr. Andre Batanggol, attended the child upon arrival at the hospital and checked the child’s condition.

When the doctor found out that the child’s condition was already stable, Dr. Batanggol allegedly said that he would in his office leaving the child under the care of Chito Chaluag, a nurse aide.

After three hours Arlene Aguilar, the child’s aunt said she noticed that the boy was having difficulty in breathing so she immediately told the nurse aide to call the doctor but the nurse refused saying the doctor was asleep.

The family said Perigo wants the Women’s Children and Protection Desk (WCPD) to look for a possible charge to be filed against the doctor or the nurse. /Correspondent Joy Cherry Quito

Robbed, taxi driver jumps from cab

A taxi driver jumped off from his cab when three unidentified men robbed him at a gunpoint near Maguikay flyover, Mandaue City, yesterday dawn.

The CTC taxi unit bearing the plate number of GXF 240 was later recovered in Sacris Road, barangay Banilad, Mandaue City.
