Mandaue’s new traffic systems is motorist, PWD-friendly
THE city government of Mandaue is in the final stages of rolling out its high-tech traffic system that is friendly to persons with disabilities.
The P39 million traffic system includes close circuit television (CCTV) cameras connected to a fiber optic system, digital clocks and audio timers for PWDs in pedestrian crossings.
The CCTV will help traffic managers monitor traffic flow and volume in major thoroughfares as well help law enforcers in monitoring crimes.
The digital clocks would help curb incidence of drivers beating the red light, while the audio timers in pedestrian crossings would help the visually impaired to cross busy streets safely.
Nine sets of this modern traffic lights costing P39 million are part of Phase 1 of Mandaue City’s traffic system modernization project said Jamaal James Calipayan, executive secretary of Mayor Jonas Cortes.
The remaining five sets of traffic lights will be installed in the second phase of the project which is targetted to be installed before the year ends.
Edwin Ermac, head of Traffic Enforcement Agency in Mandaue (TEAM), said that the modern traffic system in 14 major intersections of the city will be monitored in the command center.
“Dili pareha sa karon ba nga among gibuhat kay e-verify pa unsay nahitabo nganong traffic which takes time,” Ermac said.
