Classes in some Metro Manila schools suspended over flood fears

MANILA, Philippines – Due to flood fears, schools and local governments in Metro Manila suspended classes Tuesday afternoon as rain started to pour in some parts of the national capital region.
1. All classes in elementary and secondary levels in public schools in Manila have been suspended according to Ric De Guzman, chief of staff of the office of the mayor, said in a radio interview.
2. Classes in Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and City College of Manila were also suspended, Guzman said in a radio interview.
3. The local government of San Juan also made an announcement suspending classes in all private and public schools
4. University of Santo Tomas (@varsitarianust). “Advisory from the office of the secretary-general: As per advice from the MMDA, of expected heavy downpour from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and foreseen flooding, classes in the high school, college, and postgraduate levels as well as office work will be canceled from 3 p.m. onwards today, June 18, 2013. The campus must be vacated by 4 p.m. The Colleges are advised to ensure that the missed class activities are made-up for,” it said.
5. Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Sta. Mesa, Manila (@PolytechUnivPh) “Classes in all levels and office work has been suspended today, June 18, 2013 starting 3:00 PM in PUP Sta. Mesa, Manila Campus.”
6. San Sebastian College Recoletos (@SSCROfficial) “Classes are suspended effective 4 p.m.”
7. Philippine Women’s University Manila (@PWU_Manila) “As of 4 p.m. today (june 18) classes and offices are suspended.”
8. Far Eastern University (@FarEasternU) “Classes in FEU Manila and FEU East Asia College are officially suspended from 4:00 p.m. onwards. Stay safe Tams”
9. Saint Jude Catholic School Manila (@sjcsmanila) “Due to expected heavy rainfall, class dismissal is at 3:30 pm today for Elementary and High School (Early Childhood is at 3pm).”
10. Adamson University Manila (@adamsonchronicl) “Classes in AdU are suspended, effective 4pm. – Office of the University President”
11. De La Salle University Manila (@DLSUManila) “DLSU Announcement: Classes, in all levels and in all Metro Manila campuses, including office work, are suspended today, 18 June 2013, from 4:20 onwards.”
12. University of the East Manila (@Official_UE) “Per Pres. Ester Garcia, UE Manila classes and office work for today, June 18, 2013 are suspended, effective 4 p.m. UE MANILA ONLY.”
13. St Scholastica’s College (@SSC_SC) “Classes are suspended today, June 18, 2013, starting at 4:30pm. -Ms. Marquez, Dean of Student Affairs.”
14. Philippine College of Criminology – Manila Law College (@PCCr_MLC) “Due to inclement weather, classes in PCCR are suspended effective 1PM. Offices are likewise suspended effective 4PM.”
15. De La Salle College of St. Benilde (@DLSCSB_Official) “Benilde suspends classes effective June 18, 2013, 4:20 p.m. due to inclement weather. Please take all necessary precautions on your way home.”
16. Manila Central University (@MCU1904) “Please be advised that starting 4:00 p.m. today, classes & office work are officially suspended.”
Letran College, however, did not suspend classes. “Please be informed that classes in the collegiate department will go on as usual. Please be guided. Thank you” according to (@LetranOfficial).
Tropical Storm “Emong” is currently within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) east of Luzon and is moving northward towards Japan.
Though the storm will not directly affect the country, the enhanced southwest monsoon is expected to bring moderate and heavy rains throughout the country
