Motorcycles impounded
THE CENTRAL Luzon police have impounded 4,757 motorcycles and scooters since it launched a campaign to stop vehicle theft and other crimes in May, the region’s top police official said.
Regional police director Chief Supt. Edgardo Ladao said 34 cars and sport utility vehicles were also impounded in different provinces in the region.

2 fishermen rescued
TWO FISHERMEN from eastern Visayas have been rescued by villagers of a fishing community in Mindanao’s Surigao del Norte province 12 days after being lost at sea, police on Monday said.
Jonathan Roncales, 38, and Michael Diolola, 30, were found aboard their boat drifting toward the coast of Surigao del Norte famished, said Supt. Martin Gamba, Caraga police spokesperson.
The two fishermen had set out from Dolores town in Eastern Samar on Aug. 1 when their boat ran out of fuel. “Waves and strong current drifted them until they were found off Sta. Monica town in Surigao del Norte,” Gamba said in a statement.
Officials said the fishermen were found and saved by a local fisherman identified as Isidro Palahang. The rescued fishermen were given food and medical attention by local officials before being allowed to return home on Sunday, Gamba said. Frinston L. Lim, Inquirer Mindanao
Village councilor, watchman slain
A VILLAGE councilor and a village watchman were killed when an unidentified gunman opened fire during a village revelry in Maco town, Compostela Valley, police said.
A civilian was also wounded following the shooting spree at a benefit dance in Barangay Pangi past 11:30 p.m. Saturday, said provincial police director Senior Supt. Timoteo Pacleb.

3 dead in landslide
THREE persons, including two children, were reported killed while 100 residents were displaced when a landslide and a flash flood, caused by continuous heavy rains, hit the remote Kinayao village in Bagumbayan town, Sultan Kudarat on Friday.
Bagumbayan town mayor Bernardita Bito-onon identified the victims as Teresita Albanses, 49, her daughter Daisy, 9, and a certain Kristin Olivar, 3. Aquiles Z. Zonio, Inquirer Mindanao
