Samba, Hiroshi draw match in men’s open
Men’s Open two-time defending champions Hiroshi FC put its grandslam bid in danger after Samba FC fought them to a 3-all draw in yesterday’s resumption of the Cebu Amateur Football Club’s (CAFC) 13th Cebu Inter-Club Football Cup at the Cebu City Sports Center.
The draw dropped Hiroshi FC to the second spot in Group B with four points off one win and one draw. CAFC took the top spot with six points after clinching its second win at the expense of Mactan Camellanz United, 3-0.
Samba FC, backed up by Nigerian players of the Southwestern University, found the back of the net in the 11th minute of the game but Hiroshi FC’s Rodney Gandionco tied the match with his goal.
Former Philippine team member Richard Canedo gave the defending champions a slim one-point lead with his goal just two minutes into halftime.
Another former national booter Joshua Fegidero stretched Hiroshi FC’s lead to two with his contribution in the 73rd minute. Samba FC managed two goals in the dying minutes of the ballgame to draw abreast of the defending champions.
CAFC, meanwhile, was propelled to the top spot by the hattrick of Ryan Hemedia, who found the back of the net in the 24th, 33rd and 84th minutes of the match.
Cebu Queen City United (CQCU), on the other hand, took the top spot in Group A with another powerful performance against ERCO FC, 5-0.
The most impressive win in the category came from San Roque Rehab, who annihilated Cebu Korea FC, 11-0.
In the 40-Above played last Saturday night, Kevlar Queen City United (QCU) A waxed hot with a 9-0 thrashing of sister team QCU-B, while Hiroshi FC and KN Ferraren played to a scoreless draw.
At the Aboitiz Sports Field, the University of San Carlos (USC) and Ateneo de Cebu (AdC) logged their second victories in the Ladies Open by clobbering respective foes.
USC blanked CTU, 4-0, while AdC inflicted a 7-0 routing on Samba Girls.
In the U18 boys, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) collected its first three points at the expense of Abellana National School-Pomeroy with a 2-1 decision.
The Magis Eagles were not so successful in the U11 Boys after bowing to Lahug ES, 0-3. The other match saw USC stomping on the Phoenix, 6-0.
