SAN PEDRO, Laguna – Many movie actors and show business personalities in Laguna are enjoying leads in the latest tallies of election returns but others are not as lucky.

Movie actor and re-electionist Gov. Jeorge Estregan “ER” Ejercito (United Nationalist Alliance) of Laguna enjoys an almost 60,000 lead with 415,130 votes against challenger and former fourth district congressman Edgardo San Luis (Liberal Party), who got 356,592, according to the latest unofficial figures posted by the Commission on Elections.

San Luis is the son of the late Laguna governor Felicisimo San Luis who ruled the province for about three decades.

In the first district congressional race, movie actor Danilo Ramon “Dan” Fernandez (LP) amassed 120,784 votes against 39,854 of his rival Gat-Ala Alatiits (PDP-Laban), the Comelec unofficial count showed.

Both sure winners were yet to be proclaimed by the provincial board of canvassers which, as of noon Wednesday, was still waiting for official results to come in at the canvassing hall at the Provincial Capitol in the capital town of Sta. Cruz.

Another showbiz re-electionist candidate Angelica Jones Alarva (UNA) was also coming in strong with 61,598 votes to ensure her another term on the provincial board. She was second to frontrunner and independent candidate Karen Agapay, who got 99,257 votes.

Tailing Angelica Jones in third place is Marina Paras, the widow of board member Reynaldo Paras, who was killed by unknown assailants in June last year, with only 35,653.

The first two highest in the race will represent the province’s third district on the provincial board.

Sympathy votes for the widow of the slain board member were obviously not enough to dislodge the movie actress from the prospect of making it again to the provincial board.

Another personality, Sol Aragones (UNA), an ABS CBN broadcast talent, was likewise leading in the third district congressional race with 80,300 votes, or a lead of about 9,000 votes against re-electionist Rep. Evita “Ivy” Arago, who got 71,255 votes.

But some show biz personalities were not quite fortunate.

Movie actor Dennis Padilla Baldivia, who is running for provincial board member also in the third district was in fourth place, with 33,599 votes.

Actor Emilio Garcia (LP) and Eric Ejercito (UNA), a nephew of newly proclaimed Manila Mayor-elect Joseph Estrada, were also losing, occupying the last two places for the provincial board seats in the Laguna’s first district.
