Davao Sur cop married to vice mayoral bet probed for harassing businessman

MAGSAYSAY, Davao del Sur–A police officer was being investigated for allegedly harassing a businessman because the latter refused to support the officer’s wife, who is a vice mayoral candidate here, the police reported Monday.

Chief Insp. Renier Raotraot, town police chief, said businessman Roder Antonio had filed a formal complaint against Chief Inspector Dave Mejia, who is assigned with the Southern Mindanao police office in Davao City.

Raotraot said that based on Antonio’s complaint, Mejia and four armed men on board a Toyota Fortuner blocked his path while he was heading for Barangay Poblacion on Sunday afternoon.

The businessman in his complaint claimed that Mejia choked him and confronted him about not supporting the police officer’s wife, Councilor Joy Ferolino Mejia, in her bid against reelectionist Magsaysay Vice Mayor Marty Basunillo.

Raotraot said charges of harassment and violation of the Election Law was now being prepared against Mejia, who has yet to show up at the police station for his counter-statement.
