BATANGAS CITY, Philippines – Police arrested on Saturday evening a village chief of a town in Batangas for violating the gun ban imposed by the Commission on Election during the campaign period.

Constancio Matienzo, 48, village chief of Barangay (village) Tambo Ibaba, Sta. Teresita town, was driving his car when police flagged him down for the routine inspection at a checkpoint and found an unlicensed gun inside his Mitsubishi Lancer (TND-326), said Senior Inspector Joel Laraya, Batangas police information officer, on Sunday.

He said the Sta. Teresita policemen found an unlicensed .45 pistol and 10 rounds of ammunition inside Matienzo’s car at around 10:45 a.m. on Saturday.

Laraya said Matienzo would be charged with violation of the Comelec gun ban and illegal possession of firearm.
