DAVAO CITY—Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, this city’s longtime chief executive who is known for his tough brand of law enforcement, on Thursday night asked voters to make sure reelectionist Sen. Francis Escudero tops the senatorial race.

“Do you still want to live? Then make him No. 1,” Duterte said in the Cebuano dialect and apparently in jest during a campaign rally in the seaside community of Barangay Bucana Purok II-A in Talomo district on Thursday night.
Duterte cracked the joke in the presence of President Aquino’s sister, Kris and another Team PNoy senatorial candidate, Grace Poe.
Kris Aquino on Thursday campaigned for Escudero and Poe in the Mindanao cities of General Santos and Davao. She was also with the two candidates when they campaigned Cebu and Tacloban in the Visayas on Friday.
During the rally, Duterte first made the mock threat when he endorsed the candidacy of congressional candidate Luis Bonguyan.
