Escalante’s Gumban to fight Ocon in Mandaue on May 4

07:08 AM April 24, 2013

MELVIN Gumban of Escalante City will face Fernando “Batang Bato” Ocon in a 10-round non-title bout that will serve as the main event of a May 4 fight card at the Mandaue City Plaza Square.

The undefeated Gumban (13W-0L, 6 KOs) beat Marjun Tabamo last February in Bohol by unanimous decision. The 23 year-old pug is one of the new prospects coming out of the ALA Gym. Three of his five fights last year ended by the short route.

Ocon (10W-4L, 2 KOs), who fights out of the RWS Gym, lost in three overseas fights for regional belts last year all by decision. One of his losses was a split verdict to Indonesian Tommy Seran, who lost by fourth round knockout to Milan Melindo in Macau last April 6.
