Lawyer wounded, 2 staffers killed in Zamboanga ambush
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines—Two persons were killed while a lawyer remains in critical condition following an ambush here early Saturday.
Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo, city police director, identified those killed as the brothers Gerome and Manuel Lozada, both members of the staff of lawyer Homer Mabale.
Mabale himself was injured in the ambush near his home in Lopez Subdivision in Barangay Tugbungan here early Saturday.
“Mabale and the other victims were on their way home aboard (the lawyer’s) car when fired upon by two men riding tandem” on a motorcycle said Senior Inspector Elmer Acuna, chief of Tetuan district police station, adding that the assailants used handguns.
He said the ambush took place some 200 meters away from Mabale’s house.
The Lozada brothers suffered multiple gunshot wounds and were dead on arrival at the hospital, Acuna said.
“The lawyer suffered two gunshot wounds on his lower armpit and is undergoing medical treatment,” he said.
De Ocampo said the police were still trying to determine the identity and the motive of the assailants.
