Comelec set to resolve case of partylist groups with 2 sets of nominees

MANILA, Philippines–The Commission on Elections on Tuesday said it was set to resolve the case of at least seven partylist groups that have two sets of nominees in time for the May 13 balloting.

Based on the official list of partylist nominees released by the Comelec, the groups that submitted two sets of nominees were Ako Bicol Political Party (AKB), Anak Mindanao Partylist (AMIN), Trade Union Congress Party (TUCP), Adhikaing Tinataguyod ng Kooperatiba (Ating Koop);

Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC), Coalition of Associations of Senior Citizens in the Philippines, Inc. (Senior Citizens) and Abakada-Guro (Abakada).

“It has to be resolved before the elections by the commission en banc because there only has to be one set of nominees per partylist,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez on Tuesday.

Under the Partylist System Act and Comelec Resolution 9366, partylist groups participating in the elections are obliged to submit a list of at least five nominees, from which partylist representatives shall be chosen in case the group obtains the required number of votes to win a seat in Congress.

The Comelec list showed that AKB has two sets of nominees–Christoper Co, Rodel Batocabe and Alfredo Garbin Jr. were on one list while the other showed Emilio Ubaldo, Pedro Ravanilla and Rus Kristoffer Parcia.

AMIN nominees included Amabella Carumba, Acmad Macatimbol and Anthony Cuyong while the other set, Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, Rowaisa Pandapatan and Alejandro Plariza.

TUCP nominees were named as Raymond Democrito Mendoza, Anthony Sasin and Miguel Niez as well as Roland dela Cruz, Alejandro Villaviza and Temistocles Dejon Jr.

Ating Koop also listed two sets of nominees: Roberto Mascariña, Amparo Rimas and Lancelot Padla; and Isidro Lico, Ma. Socorro Calara and Gloria Futalan.

The Comelec list also showed the following CIBAC nominees: Luis Lokin Jr., Antonio Manahan and Bibiano Rivera, as well as Sherwin Tugna, Cinchona Cruz-Gonzales and Armi Jane Borje.

The Senior Citizens group listed Francisco Datol Jr., Amelia Olegario and Efren Santos as nominees as well as Godofredo Arquiza, Milagros Magsaysay and David Kho.

The nominees of Abakada were identified as Jonathan dela Cruz, Alexander Lopez and Rodolfo Tor and Artemio Tuquero, Lope Feble and Pedro Dabu, Jr.
