3 cops slain, 3 wounded in clash with rebels

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines—Three policemen were killed while three others were wounded in a clash with suspected communist rebels in Asipulo, Ifugao, on Friday.

Reports from the Cordillera police said Inspector George Lauro, Police Officer 2 Jody Lino Mamgue and PO2 John Codod were killed when their group engaged an undetermined number of communist rebels in a gunfight in Sitio Nangkatingey in Barangay Namal at 7:25 a.m.

Their companions — PO2 Marcial Angaga, PO2 Solomon Pao-iton and PO1 Abdon Angayon -– were wounded and taken by military helicopter to the Lagawe General Hospital in the Ifugao capital, Lagawe.

The victims were part of a group of policemen from the Cordillera police’s public safety battalion and the Benguet and Ifugao police offices’ public safety company.

    This is something I never can understand -police officers fighting communist terrorist? Isn’t this the work of military personnel and police manpower will be better use to fight ordinary criminals preying on innocent civilians? How did we end up doing this?

      opo hindi lang internal security ang trabaho ng pulis.. kahit ang mga komunistang terorista trabaho din nila. lalo na ang mga pulis sa probinsya na active ang mga npa at iba pang armadong grupo. marami ang kalaban ng pulis di tulad ng ibang law enforcement agencies at military.

    as usual lagas na naman ang hanay ng serbisyo publiko. diyan dapat isabak ang tropa ni col. abang at marantan para malaman ang kanilang galing sa enkwentro. pero lagi na lang talo ang kapulisan at kasundaluhan pagdating sa ganyang labanan. hindi kaya may problema sa pamunuan, pagsasanay at sa intelihensiyang sobra sobra kung dumukot ng badyet pero laging walang sustansiya ang nakukuhang impormasyon. siguro talagang ayaw matapos ang ganyang problema para tuloy tuloy ang daloy ng pondo para sa rebelyon at para maraming makurakot ang mga opisyales.. nasasakripisyo tuloy ang modernisasyon ng militar pero higit sa lahat ang maraming buhay.

      ala naman pong magaling sa engkwentro.. kahit malulupet pa ang training mo, kahit sf, sr, commando, saf, etc.. ka pa vulnerable ka na mamatay o ma injured sa patraydor na ambush. sa pelikula siguro.. kung nardong putik, asiong salonga o ikaw si john rambo kaya mo ubusin ang kalaban at lalabas ka ng buhay.
