TARLAC, Philippines—The “Team Patay/Team Buhay” posters have reached many provinces and Tarlac is no different as its San Sebastian Cathedral also greets churchgoers with its own such posters.

Draped on its facade are three posters, one which lists Team Buhay composed of San Juan Representative Joseph Victor Estrada, Senator Gregorio Honasan, Zambales Representative Milagros Magsaysay, Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, former Las Piñas Representative Cynthia Villar, Lito David, Llasos Marwil and JC delos Reyes.

It also includes Buhay, 1-Sagip, Ang Prolife and Pacyaw partylists.

The other poster lists senatorial candidates whom the church has deemed to be pro-Reproductive Health or pro-divorce: Aurora Representative Juan Edgardo Angara, Bayan Muna Representative Teodoro Casiño, Paolo Benigno Aquino IV, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Cagayan Representative Jack Enrile, Risa Hontiveros, Senator Francis Escudero, Senator Loren Legarda, and former Senator Jamby Madrigal; including Gabriela, Akbayan, Bayan Muna and Anakpawis partylists.

The poster above the cathedral’s entrance reads: Vote as God the author of life would wish you to vote. Vote to protect family and life.

  • Hey_Dudes

The catholic church in the country has gone totally shameless. It does not recognize separation between church and state – it continues to engage in things political an issue they know is strictly a non descriptive of the catholic church inner workings.

    • Jimmy Mariano

Define “separation between church and state”

    • Concur_Dissent

They have gone beyond not recognizing separation of church and state…Ex-bishop Oca Cruz already started not to recognize separation of church and showbiz…

      • Jimmy Mariano

The 1987 Constitution of the Philippines bears out separation of church and states (Article II, Section 6) to guarantee freedom of religion on the country. It does not suppress church people to speak about opinions about the states. You will not find any in the constitution prohibiting that. Rather it acknowledge the freedom of religion as declares: No law shall be made respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. The free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, without discrimination or preference, shall forever be allowed. No religious test shall be required for the exercise of civil or political rights. (Article III, Section 5)

      • kapitkapatiran

lol that copy and paste from a wiki. Their “opinion” is that people should support a certain group of candidates because they are against one law. They can speak their opinions but trying to sway people into supporting certain candidates and branding people by putting them in a specific team is a whole different matter. Helping people win the elections is something the church does in their free time ba?

      • Jimmy Mariano

What is the difference of supporting certain candidates from a non-political institution to a religious group? Like brotherhood, catholic church, and INC? Does it matter to you? Will you not support a candidate endorsed by a group where you belong? Be real.

      • Jane Tan

What if you and your group have different opinions on who to support, you’d succumb to peer pressure? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of having the freedom to vote?

      • brunogiordano

        From a secular group, YES!!!

From a RELIGIOUS GROUP definitely NO even if they declare me HERETIC.

    • superpilipinas

what does “separation of church and state” mean?….he-he-he…please read the definition before you say it is not recognized.

    • Cristina Zamora Borra

The concept of the separation between church and state DOES NOT mean that the church CANNOT express its political opinion. It ACTUALLY means that the GOVERNMENT cannot favor ONE RELIGION OVER OTHERS (like when the English monarchs only promoted Anglicans over Catholics)… which is why the Puritans migrated to (what would later become the) United States.

  • Concur_Dissent

  • Amador Amor

The team of the church is Team Damaso. The name that our great hero, Dr. Jose Rizal specifically mentioned in his book as a corrupt and evil priest. The church must not indulge in politics lest it will be tagged as the religion of the devil.

    • Cristina Zamora Borra

First, have you READ “Noli Me Tanghere”? The reference to that character as the “typical hypocritical friar”–at the very least–is erroneous. That was Fr. Salvi. Second, there will ALWAYS be spiritual leaders who do not live what they preach–the Catholic Church is NOT the only one suffering from this malady. And, third, last I heard the priests (of the Philippines) DID NOT relinquish their citizenship when they became priests–so they are STILL within their rights to express their opinions as FILIPINO CITIZENS. Read a book once in a while.

  • bacongon

  • talbosngkamote

It’s sad talaga how this is still going on. The catholic church should stop hiding from the idea that they are just expressing their own opinion and realize the separation between church and state. its really non of their business no matter what they say.

    • Jimmy Mariano

      • Jane Tan

Campaigning against the RH Law is not the free exercise of religion. Currently, it is only the Catholic Church that opposes the RH Bill – if we are to impede its passage, isn’t that respecting any one establishment of religion – namely, the Catholic Church?

      • superpilipinas

campaigning against laws going against religious teachings is free exercise of religion.

      • akongednamzug

Bakit may tinatawag pa silang Team Buhay at Team Patay.

    • superpilipinas

      he-he-he. why are you sad?

I you believe in what you are saying, there is no reason to be sad! you should be happy…..talaga.

but you are probably sad because it gets to you…..and that really shows they’re effectiveness in their role as shepherds of their flock.

  • quirinomayer

    • superpilipinas

  • Mr Moonlight

    Buang na ang CBCP

    • superpilipinas

      pala-otog…..he-he-he…nakakabuang yan!

  • Hey_Dudes

  • cato_the_younger

Well, the people of Tarlac should also come up with posters of priests who have not been true to their vows – celibacy, poverty, honesty, etc. like what happened in Negros. Probably if the Team Patay senators win, they should also probably disallow the celebration of fiestas as well as disallow the distribution of government funds to any Catholic institution (paging PAGCOR). Better, yet, it’s probably high time to remove the tax exemptions of religious institutions.

    • superpilipinas

agree. expose the truth. it’s free will to everyone.

yes, remove the tax exemptions of everyone in the Philippines. all should be taxed. and no separation of church and state.

So if Ayala donates around 1 million pesos to the church every year, they should not claim tax deductions for charity and the church should pay part of the donation to the government. The church doesn’t lose because it does not make money, Patrons like the Ayalas lose, Not a bad idea! Patrons will continue to give money anyway and even give more.

Then the church would be forced to sell their huge properties because of property taxes. But since they pay taxes and no separation of church and state, then they will now be allowed to use the huge money for direct intervention in politics or even fund a party or a group of politicians with the funding of huge number of donors every sunday countrywide.

Then the church backed politicians will repeal the taxes again. Then we’re back to the church not paying taxes. But this time, the church has now direct influence to the government. He-he-he….so be careful what you wish for!

  • imongredneck

Honasan and Trillanes cannot be identified as Team Buhay because these two have shown that they won’t hesitate to blow a building filled with innocent people. Their anti RH positions are suspect. Estrada and Villar are in it to get elected to protect their family interests, these two have not really given convincing arguments for their objection of the bill other than motherhood statements. so, there anti RH positions are suspect.

    • superpilipinas

“these two have shown that they won’t hesitate to blow-up a building filled with innocent people.”…then why didn’t they do that….if they have shown that?

  • Hey_Dudes

Nasaan ang Team Tatay at Team Pedophiles ng CBCP Obispos?

    • superpilipinas

He-he-he.

  • LadyBalmaceda

im honestly getting sick of these team buhay team whatever posters. they spawned from something that wasent right. if they really did have a opinion on these senators before why did they wait so long to voice their concerns? why wait for elections? it makes people come to the conclusion of two points.. one they are being really childish and just want “revenge” or two which i really dont want to think about is people are behind this all and convinced them to use their so called “opinion” when to be honest it clearly states who and who not to vote for :) you have to be stup!d not to get the message they are dishing out

    • DennisTan

i agree with you. it seems shady that they would pick now.. its been so long its hard to imagine the “church” holding a grudge when they should be teaching people otherwise…

      • superpilipinas

when the church thinks the representatives are not representing the people’s religious principles, then they think that the representatives need to be replaced. that itself is the teaching.

      • nes911

Ano bang prinsipyo mayroon sila?

……at walang barilan…he-he-he.

    • superpilipinas

because elections are the most effective time….he-he-he.

  • risamyloves

meh… more of this? im honestly growing sick of all this plus the “excuses” the church is giving out.. its sad really.

  • brunogiordano

Huwag iboto ang TEAM maka-DAMASO PLEASE.

At lalo na huwag iboto ang –

    UNQUALIFIED

    CHEATER

ANG CONVICTED MANDARAMBONG AT KANYANG ANAK

    MATAPOBRE AT MANGLALAIT

    MAKA-DAMASO

  • JuliusContis

more manipulation for the week minded folk.. its what the church loves doing anyway. manipulating

    • MonGaspar

      whats new :)

    >>>The poster above the cathedral’s entrance reads: Vote as God the author of life would wish you to vote. Vote to protect family and life.<<<

  • MonMayuga

    And Team Tatay, too.

  • Jesse_Bruce_Pinkman

I just saw Les Miserables today after downloading its 18 GB HD copy from torrent and I must say it is the most wasted film, if not the worst film, I have ever seen this year.

I could not endure 30 minutes of it with all the lines being sung. No, my bad. Not sung but stretched like thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssssssssss. I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaated thhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis fuuuuuuuuuuccccckkkkkkkkiiiiiiiiiiiiiinggggggggg fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiilllllllllllllmmmmmmmmmm.

Oh God. I wasted several days for this useless download. I downloaded it for free and I still feel ripped. What a drag.

“VOTE AS GOD WISH YOU TO VOTE”

ANA: “Ayon sa tarpolina ng Team Tatay sa Tarlac – (Vote as God the author of life would wish you to vote).

CION: “Sabi ng Romans 12:6 (If our gift is to speak God’s message, we should do it according to the faith that we have).

  • farmerpo

CBCP is deaf and blind to the admonition by example of Pope Francis. Not only their fingers are in politics now it is their whole arm. I wish they just out and out join the political arena by running for office, like barangay kagawad for instance. That way, they can gauge and have a good feel if they are listened to by the people or not. The way it is, they are shooing away people from the Philippine Catholic Church by the drove. Me, being one of them.

  • nes911

Pikon at vengatibo pala.

  • calixto909

These workers of God must not allow their emotions borne from the passage of the RH law to oppose the Team Pnoy but instead focus on the perdition that a hostile senate that’s sooner be created shall do to the appreciated and pushing forward matuwid na daan program of Aquino when the Team UNA wins the majority of the senate slot.

I for one vowed prior hand and likewise instructed my children not to vote for any legislator who supported the RH Bill but when the dawn of politics unveiled the machination of the UNA via installing Binay as the leader then my intuition ruled over my emotion to uphold and protect this prosperity brought forth by the matuwid na daan of Pnoy. Prosperity of the nation is everyone’s concern

    • indiosbravos2002

The president has to make hard decisions sometimes against his persnal or religious conviction to ensure growth of the country is pushed forward even after his term. I believe he knows drastic change can not and will not happen on his term. Six years is too short to accomplish everything. And yet 3 years after, we are now slowly seeing signs of the economy improving. However, it will take more time for the changes to trickle down to the poor or uplift our economic status to newly industrialized economy. What the president’s goal is simply to lay down the framework on where we are heading and how to get there. Clean up the government, Clean up corruption, Remove scalawags in the government, and work on giving the economy a positive momentum. Beyond that is the next president’s job. A Binay presidency will NEGATE all of this and will bring us back to pre-PNOY’s term.

  • marlo concepcion

  • Philcruz

Those posters are the work of immature political prelates. They should go out to the poor and wash their feet. And the clergy should wash their mouths with soap. They should also organize their own political party and join the elections and put up their own candidates at all levels. But first they should give up their tax-free status.

  • penoy2012

    Vote for Team Buhay.
    Scrap Team Patay.

  • indiosbravos2002

And I thought the CBCP disowned these posters already as the work of quasi-religious organizations not directly related to the church. How come nakadikit na naman sa facade ng simbahan. WHAT A BUNCH OF LIARS!

  • Allen Douglas

Team Patay Team Buhay posters are spreading like wild fire in the whole Pinas parishes. BAD NEWS FOR TEAM PATAY……….

  • disqusted0fu

Pretty much everyone who supports the tuwid na daan slogan is team patay. This infamous slogan makes the public believe that the Aquino administration has done great things for the country but when you really think about it… The Aquino admin passed the RH bill, vetoed the magna carta for the poor, neglected typhoon victims, sided with Malaysia on the violent standoff in Sabah, continued to ignore extra judicial killings and many more… All these things have everything to do with the quality of life, and sadly, all are done by the Aquino administration.
