Honasan to file resolution to reverse Aquino’s veto of height requirement bill

MANILA, Philippines—Senator  Gringo  Honasan said  he would  file a resolution  when  Congress resumes session in June  to override President  Benigno Aquino III’s veto of a bill  that would repeal the height requirement for admission into the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

Honasan is the main author of the  bill in the Senate and  chairman of the  Senate committee on  public order that deliberated and  approved the  measure.

“When the session resumes, I will submit this for the better judgment of both chambers. I will talk to my counterpart in Congress,”  he told  reporters in phone patch interview on  Tuesday.

“With the  two-third votes from both chambers, we can override the veto of the President,” he said.

Honasan  hopes that  the 198  congressmen and  19 senators  who  signed the  bill would not change their stand on the measure.

And  when Congress  gets  the needed votes to  override the veto,   Honasan said  the bill would no longer be sent back to the  President  for signature  as  it would automatically become a law.

The senator said the President might just have been  fed with wrong information that was why  he vetoed  the  bill.

But overwhelming votes from the Senate and  the House of Representatives, he said, would  show that the proposed measure was legitimate, not a “hao-siao” bill.

Senate  Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III also protested  the  President’s  decision to veto the measure.

“I’m sure the President did not review the congressional debates on the matter. We discussed his concerns and it was well explained by the authors and sponsors,” Sotto said in a text message.

    ‘PNoy received money from Malaysia’

David claimed the President received money from

Malaysia, which is the reason behind his stand on the Sultanate of Sulu’s
    claim
    over Sabah.

“He never wanted [to pursue the claim] in the first place… It is not

possible for them to take such positions and speak against their own people
if they are not on the take,” he said.

When asked what he would do if he is slapped with libel cases due to his

accusations against Aquino, David said: “I would welcome it provided I will
be given a day in court.”

This inutile and autistic president in malacanang may have been too immersed in his PSP where the actors or avatars are ideally physically constructed so that he/she misconstrued with the actions there to the majority of police work. The modern police work doesn’t all require brawn and height but with its multifarious tasks the force needs personnel with highly technical savvy to confront criminals. And there are instances where an under height individual can outrun a 5’6″ height individual. Sen Honasan is adept on this occupational differentiation, hence, he authored this Bill.

  • amado_guerero

Ngayon na di pa kayo mga presidente just shut up let see if you can master 2/3 rd vote…puro kayo grandstanding…pweee

    • poltergeist_fuhrer

        oppssss may tanga bow….

  • tanga_hanga_ni_abnoy

parang siguradong mananalo na si gorio a

  • poltergeist_fuhrer

it does not follow that a 5’4″ in height is already physically fit…

it does not follow also that a 5′ in height is not physically fit…

NAPAKA AUTISTIC TALAGA NG PRESIDENTENG ITO…

    YAN ANG DAAN MATUWID…

PAG BOBOTOHAN PA NINYO ITONG MGA TEAM PENOY NA ITO AT LALO MAGKAKAROON NG DISCRIMINATION NG MGA YELLOW RIBBONS…

    • Winzum Daoas

That is part of the requirements because a cop deals with criminals of all type that is why he/she should have enough physical leverage or he/she should at least be able to intimidate criminals so that peace and order can be sustained.

      • poltergeist_fuhrer

        physical leverage???
how can a woman initmidate a criminal who is 5’6…and she is just 5’2″

and how can a woman police wrestle a man since they’ve already admitted the women…

it is all the same…woman, 5 feet or not are all the same…

and can u imagine a hole that a 5 feet tall man can only the one to go through when there is a fire…

  • poltergeist_fuhrer

MR PRESIDENT…KASALANAN BA NG TAO NA PANDAK ANG ISANG TAO???

    THIS IS DISCRIMINATION…

    • sanjuan683

hehehehe di bali pandak huwag lang panot, panot kita bunbunan.

  • poltergeist_fuhrer

  • Kenjie Hasaki

Pag matangkad ba ibig sabihin mas kagalang galang.

Perhaps the President wants to protect the physical image of our armed forces. Akalain mo yun dwarfs tapos nangongotong… e di comedy na…(No insult intended to dwarfs)

  • Jane Tan

Personally, I don’t believe in a height requirement. Though a much harder physical assessment would be better.

    • sanjuan683

  • poltergeist_fuhrer

andito na naman ang mga rah rah boys ng malakanyang…to defend their boss…

‘Don’t want no short people, they walk around tellin’ big lies.’ – song
‘I do not like short men as their heads are close to their a$$#07e.’ – saying

Incorrectness aside, in college, when me and my barkada took the bus to travel from north to south, it turns out the driver, backup driver and ticket person were all gigantic.

A day later, it showed why the bus line preferred those physical sizes. One of the tires went flat. The following day, another tire.

Removing the height restriction is similar to allowing women to serve. IF they can pass the physical tests.

Imagine they would have to make a short hop just to give a left hook or right cross.

It’s ok if the bill passes. It will be interesting times.

  • NAGMAMARUNONG

not your time gents. wait til binay becomes pres. and jinggoy vp. malapit na at 3yrs na lang.

  • rlo

Who was training the US forces for jungle survival and guerrilla warfare in Subic back in the days? Oh yes….he was a pygmy. An Aeta tribal chief. Hmmnnnn…how tall were the Viet Congs back then? Certainly they had no issues with fighting. Hmmnnn….maybe tall people look better in parade uniforms.

  • Keith_P

I’m all for kicking discrimination in the balls. But at some point there has to be a limit as to how short a law enforcer can be.

There has to be a compromise somewhere. A balance between not looking down on short people’s dedication to their job, and at the same time taking into consideration the impracticality of issuing a firearm that is longer/taller than the police officer who’s supposed to use it.

  • Camillo

These senators are wasting our money by passing mundane bills.

  • generalproblem

We need bills for green revolution, squatting on gov’t private properties at hefty fines, enhanced rice production technology for rice sufficiency, compartmentalized sentencing of crimes like the Ampatuans for faster punishment in 6 months to save time and cost, etc. Honasan and Lacson belong to the category of the Euro generals useless and wasteful.

  • louie

not all police jobs require height. so i am for job-base height requirement.

  • ARIKUTIK

Manalo ka muna bago mag dada.

  • JosengSisiw1

after planning and attempting and failing so many times to unseat a plain housewife president, honasan like his mentor enrile still believed on themselves as wisemen in arm forces. after failing so hard as military strategist, this joker still speaks as if he is the guy who knew how to run the police and fire department.

  • Hey_Dudes

Gringo Honasan who was wanted by the police as one of many conspirators on the Oakwood mutiny, was so tall he hurt himself jumping out of his mistress house window where he was cornered.

  • Edzel N. Palacio

Hindi nga sila uubra kay Rambotito Binay. Kahit pandak pa siya.

  • koolkid_inthehouse

Enrile’s attacked dog. His boss lost the credibility and his trying to show off his fangs.

  • MaySenseBa

Honasan has been in the Senate for decades, he has not done one good thing! He was part of the those who were protecting Erap in not opening the envelope. He was protective of GMA. He has been JPE’s lapdog. The millions he has gotten in “public service” has not yielded anything positive for this nation.

May he retire and never come back to government.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Boycott.Made.N.China Val Sor

I would love for Honasan to boycott Made In China products. Every dollar you pay for a Chinese product, 60 cents of that goes to Chinese government coffers they use to build up Chinese Navy that invades our territory in Spratlys and Panatag Shoal. Let’s make no mistake, boycott Made In China now!

  • disqusted0fu

Honasan to the rescue… Pnoy alone doesn’t seem to be capable of making the best decisions, but what makes it worse is that he is surrounded by people who are either like him or are worse than him. Whether or not he reviewed the debates doesn’t matter. We just have to rely on Congress to make a better decision.

  • fm_gatmaitan
