China calls for ‘joint efforts’ to reduce Korea tensions

BEIJING – China appealed for “joint efforts” to reduce tensions on the Korean peninsula Friday, after Pyongyang ordered missile units to prepare to strike the US mainland and US stealth bombers flew over South Korea.

“We call on all relevant parties to make joint efforts to turn around the tense situation,” foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei told a regular press briefing in Beijing.

“Peace and stability on the Korean peninsula as well as Northeast Asia serves the common interest,” he added.

China is North Korea’s sole major ally and biggest trading partner, providing key energy supplies to the poverty-stricken nation.

Beijing has repeatedly voiced similar appeals since North Korea carried out a nuclear test in February, its third in seven years, which prompted the UN Security Council to endorse tighter economic sanctions on the country.

But tensions on the peninsula have soared in recent days, with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un on Friday ordering missile units to standby, hours after nuclear-capable US B-2 stealth bombers were deployed in ongoing US joint military drills with South Korea.

The order came as US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said Washington would not be cowed by Pyongyang’s bellicose threats and stood ready to respond to “any eventuality”.

I don’t believe China alone is unable to stop NK kind of aggressive behavior They are telling one thing and doing another. China and NK could be playing the rest of the world.

now China is calling for restraint. earlier china is not supporting the world in the call on north korea to stop their provocation. now american has flexed their muscles and ready for war. china is calling the parties ease the tension.

China knows that the collapse of north korea will put them in jeopardy. north korea serves as a buffer zone from the forces of american.

now china is voicing their concerns coz the americans already there.

China is saying one thing but doing another thing. While it appealed for joint efforts to reduce tensions on the Korean peninsula, its navy is busy bullying Vietnam and other claimant SEA countries and even Japan.

Perhaps someone needs to tell China what “walk-the-talk” means.

China, it’s the Dear & Fat Leader who needs more persuasion to calm down. Surely he is bluffing. Now that the Americans are calling his bluff (about time) you, China, enters as a spoiler. Restrain your dog, China. He is getting out of your yard and might harm passersby.

Like Panot, who can’t keep his backyard cleaned from corruption, China has no ascendancy to call for “joint efforts” on Korean peninsula as they themselves are bullying its neighbors on territorial claims.

  • Manuel_II

Joint effort? by conceding to N.Korean threat and again giving them concession in a hope of false peace and the continued rule of one of the most despicable regime.

Drama lang ng China ‘yan. Ginagamit ng China and North Korea as “testing-material” para ma assess at maubos ang resources ng U.S. After that, pasok ang full force ng China vs. U.S.A.. Alam nyo na ang kasunod, ibabalik ang siopao at pupuksain ang hamburger.

  • okabato

North Korea a stooge of China. You do this, you do that. Funny these two guys think they can fool anyone but their actions speaks louder. It’s all for show!!! North Korea is like Iraq before Desert Storm all air remember that? Mother of all battles says Saddam and we saw what happened. China, just look at their freaking first aircraft carrier acquired from Russia, a second hand car fitted with chinese made armaments, I’m scared. Not really.
