Incoming DLSU student threatened, then robbed of iPhone, P10,000 by cop
MANILA, Philippines — A robbery case was filed Monday in the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office against a policeman who allegedly took the iPhone and P10,000 cash of an incoming college freshman after threatening to shoot him or to frame him for illegal drugs.
According to a report by SPO1 James Poso of the Manila Police District-General Assignment Section, Victor Miranda, 18, of De La Salle University, filed a complaint on Feb. 21 against a policeman who was later identified as PO1 Christian Santos.
Miranda said that after going out of a bar in Manila on Feb. 17, around 5 a.m., he was talking to his girlfriend over the phone when Santos approached him.
Santos allegedly asked for Miranda’s cell phone and wallet. The policeman threatened him with an illegal drugs charge if he refused or to shoot him and frame him as a snatcher if he ran away.
Santos brought him to the police assistance tent in Remedios Circle where Miranda handed his iPhone 5 32gig worth P35,000 and his wallet containing P10,000.
Miranda said the policeman returned his wallet and P500 for his fare.
Ermita and MPD-GAS police conducted follow-up operations after Miranda reported the incident but they couldn’t find the suspect who was then identified only as Santos through his name tag.
An informant told Miranda that Santos was detailed at the Pasay City police. Miranda identified Santos through the police index cards with their photos, a copy of which was submitted to MPD-GAS on Friday.
Investigation showed that Santos was assigned in the Regional Public Safety Battalion in Bicutan, Taguig City. He was detailed in Pasay to augment local police force and later transferred to the Northern Police District.
Santos was summoned for an investigation but he failed to appear. Aside from robbery, the case will also be submitted to NPD for the conduct of administrative case proceedings.
