The tail end of a cold front over extreme northern Luzon will briefly bring rains over large parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila and the Southern Tagalog region, the state weather bureau said Thursday.

Batanes and the Calayan group of islands are forecast to experience cloudy skies with light rains because of the ending cold front, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Metro Manila, as well as the Calabarzon and Mimaropa regions—consisting of the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan—will be partly cloudy with brief periods of rain, the weather bureau said.

“The rest of the country will have partly cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms,” Pagasa said.

The weather bureau defines the tail end of a cold front as the front boundary of two air masses, usually found in the midlatitudes. It generally brings rainfall and cloudiness over the affected areas.

In its weather outlook for Friday, Pagasa said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over extreme northern Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.
