NAGUILIAN, Isabela, Philippines—Three students from Cauayan City died when their motorcycle collided with a van on the national highway in Barangay (village) Magsaysay here on Thursday morning, police said.

Chief Inspector Ronnie Naira, Naguilian police chief, said the motorcycle driver, George Catulos, tried to overtake a vehicle but hit the van as he swerved to the opposite lane at 5 a.m.

Catulos died while being taken to the Dr. Ester Garcia General Hospital in Cauayan City. His companions, Johnny Medina and Bartolome Flores, both 19, died instantly.

As is the practice in such cases, police arrested the van driver, Edison Solis, 30, a resident of Santiago City.

Absolutely stupid, the van driver as the victim as is normal from the brain dead police is arrested because of idiots on the road who CAUSE the accident in the first place.

when will these people learn that the motorcycle is either a single or two seater passeneger transportation vehicle? It’s hard to control a vehicle that’s not design for, other than the purpose it was made for.

What was the crime of the Van driver? It was those idiots riding the motorcycle that was at fault. I see people riding motorcycles with 2 extra passengers sometimes toddlers thinking that their bodies are made of steel. Motorcyclist should be properly schooled before they get to drive on the roads since alot of them think that riding a bike and motorcycles are one and the same.

Just one question about you motorcycle drivers: Why do you want to be treated like your four-wheeled counterparts in terms of keeping distance, etc., but when in traffic you would force and cram your motorcycles in between vehicles, sometimes even hitting our side mirrors. That’s why you get little respect, because many of you don’t respect the rules of the road. You like to overtake dangerously and I seldom, if ever, see you use your turn signals.
