Youth to hold festival to promote livable Cebu
THE youth will hold various activities to promote a livable Cebu on Saturday.
The third year and first year Psychology majors from the University of the Philippines wrote in a paper their demands with their promises for a better society.
Through the Haruhay Fest, which is supported by the Movement for a Livable Cebu (MLC) and the Youth for a Livable Cebu (YLC), the students will share their learnings and their experience on how a livable city promotes quality of life, well-being and mental health. Activities also include presentations, exhibits and a series of talks on Livable Cebu.
Biking, skateboarding, traditional Filipino games and the Ultimate Frisbee will also be played.
MLC, a civil society group that is working for the development of Metro Cebu, chose haruhay, a Cebuano word for well-to-do, as the title of their festival because its meaning is almost similar with that of livable.
“The most interesting part of the Haruhay Fest is to find out what these young citizens will do to have a Haruhay nga Sugbo,” said MLC convenor Joel Lee in a press conference last Tuesday.
A physical exercise called “Zumba sa Sugbo” is also part of the activity, which runs from 6 a.m. to noon.
“This activity is not just to express our demands, but also to propose and highlight simple and doable solutions that lead to livability of Cebu,” said the 19-year-old Psychology student Frances Anne Estrecho. /Correspondent Joy Cherry Quito
