The province’s winning entry for the LGU Best Practices award was the rice seed production and distribution project. Benita Pizarro, provincial planning and development officer, said the project promoted people empowerment and organic farming by increasing rice harvest and income of farmers.

Pangasinan is also the regional champion in the Gawad Pamana ng Lahi of the Department of the Interior and Local Government and a Hall of Fame awardee in coastal resources management. Gabriel Cardinoza, Inquirer Northern Luzon
