Lapu cops receive Medals of Merit

ELEVEN policemen received the PNP’s Medal of Merit last Friday for their successful arrest of one of Lapu-Lapu City’s most wanted persons.

Police Director General Allan M. Purisima pinned the medals on Lapu-Lapu City Police Chief Rey Lyndon Lawas, Mactan Police Station Chief Nonilo Estonilo, PO2 Rect Muldez, PO2 Samuel Evalle, PO2 Boots Christopher Tanghal, PO2 Regidor Bering, PO2 Wilson Malnegro, PO1 Rey Adriaque, PO1 Stevenson Zozobrado and PO1 Ceasar Vincent Figuracion.

The police officers were recognized for their successful arrest of Demetrio Malingin, the No. 3 Most Wanted Person in Lapu-Lapu City. Malingin was arrested  alive after a shootout last Dec. 26, 2012 at sitio Mahayahay, barangay Bangkal while they served the warrant of arrest for murder and attempted murder against the suspect.

Malingin wore a bullet proof vest and was armed with two .45 caliber pistols during the shootout. He gave up when he was hit in the ankle./Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
