With just weeks to go before the end of the school year, the police, Manila City government and a consortium of schools in the university belt have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to ensure the safety and security of all students in the area.

The signing of the MOA was done on Tuesday at the Far Eastern University (FEU) Manila campus and attended by representatives from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), city government and the University Belt Consortium.

According to a post on FEU’s  website, among the provisions listed in the memorandum were “the increased visibility of local police and barangay officials in the U-Belt area; provision and maintenance of street lights; encouragement of business establishments to install CCTV cameras in and around their premises; creation of a system in collecting, recording, reporting and summarizing offenses and related incidents committed against students within the university belt; and the formation of a crime prevention committee to prepare and oversee the execution of a comprehensive security plan for each university.”

NCRPO chief Director Leonardo Espina said he hoped the MOA would “ensure peace and order in the university belt where the future of our youths are being shaped.”
