MANILA, Philippines – Filipino cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle is among the eight candidates being considered to replace Pope Benedict XVI who is scheduled to formalize his resignation Thursday.

Tagle is the current archbishop of Manila and was appointed last year as the Catholic Church’s second youngest cardinal. He is the only contender from Asia.

In an Agance France-Press report from the Vatican, Tagle, was included in the list of top contenders who are considered pontiff material, or “papabile.”

The 55-year-old is tipped as an outsider to watch for his dynamism, charisma and stellar rise within the Church so far.

His relative youth stands against him, but he is very popular in Asia and has worked closely with Benedict.

The successor to Benedict XVI will be elected by a conclave in the Sistine Chapel next month where 115 cardinals from around the world are expected.

Following are some of the top contenders to become the next head of the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics:

EUROPE

ANGELO SCOLA

The 72-year-old archbishop of Milan is the top Italian candidate. He is a keen promoter of inter-religious dialogue, particularly between Muslims and Christians.

He is also an expert on bioethics, an issue on which Church teachings are currently lagging behind scientific advances.

PETER ERDO

Archbishop of Budapest since 2002 and a specialist in canon law who has taught at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, the 60-year-old Hungarian is tipped as another European frontrunner.

CHRISTOPH SCHOENBORN

The archbishop of Vienna, 68, is a protege of outgoing Benedict XVI and was a favourite for future pope before he called in 2010 for a re-examination of the contentious issue of priest celibacy in the wake of the child sex abuse scandal.

He has also criticised powerful figures in the Vatican for covering up the sex crimes.

Keeping the St. Peter’s chair in the hands of Europeans would help ensure the future of the Church in the increasingly secularised continent.

NORTH AMERICA

MARC OUELLET

Canada’s former archbishop of Quebec, 67, Ouellet now heads the influential Congregation of Bishops.

Known for his conservative theological views — very much in line with Benedict’s — Ouellet could be favoured for the pull he may have in the increasingly secularised West. Supporters hope he would also crack down on the unruly curia, the Vatican’s government. He is the head of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, where has a strong following.

TIMOTHY DOLAN

Archbishop of New York and a “modernist conservative”, 63-year old Dolan is media savvy — a plus in today’s social media society.

Vatican observers say his strong point lies in heading up a diocese which has been on the front-line in the damaging sex abuse scandal which had rocked the Church, but he has been heavily criticised by abuse victims group for allegedly covering up cases.

AFRICA

PETER TURKSON

The head of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, the 64-year-old Ghanaian is leading the race to become the Vatican’s first African pope.

He is considered progressive by supporters but his decision to show a recent synod a video criticising Muslims has damaged his chances according to some, who accuse him of lacking key interreligious sensibilities.

Others tipped are Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya, the 74-year-old Archbishop of Kinshasa in Congo, and Nigerian John Onaiyekan, the 69-year-old Archbishop of Abuja who promotes dialogue with Muslims.

LATIN AMERICA

ODILO SCHERER

The 63-year-old archbishop of Sao Paolo, home to five million faithful in a country that boasts the world’s largest Catholic population, is Latin America’s best hope. Scherer is seen as a moderate conservative with charisma and openness, as well as a good administrator.

The Brazilian of German origin has fought against declining traditional values and is concerned about the growing strength of evangelical churches.

Brazil alone will be represented by five cardinals in the conclave.

FILIPINOS FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE FROM AROUND THE WORLD SHOULD UNITE
AND SUPPORT MANILA CARDINAL TAGLE’S CANDIDACY TO SUCCEED POPE BENEDICT XVI AS THE FIRST ASIAN POPE IN THE HISTORY OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH.

  • Bisdak_kaayo

Porket nagsabi sa Pablo na ginampanan
niya ang role bilang Ama ng ikalat niya ang gospel ni Cristo, justification na
raw tawagin siyang Father, imbento ng mga katoliko.

Matthew 23:9And do not call anyone on
earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he
    is in heaven.

    Napakalinaw na pinagbabawal ang
pagtawag kanino man bilang spiritual father ayon sa Matthew, pero itong mga
katoliko, nagimbento ng titulo at tinawag ang mga pari at pope na Father.

1 Corinthians 4:15Even if you had ten
thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ
Jesus I became yourfather through the gospel.

Fact #1, hindi po nag UTOS si PABLO na
    tawagin siyang FATHER.
Fact #2, porket naglalahad si PABLO na ginampanan niya ang role bilang AMA, does not
mean nag utos na siya na TAWAGIN siyang AMA.

    • CommonSens6

I have a feeling you are born out of wedlock… don’t have anybody to call father,
      Just kidding!

      • Bisdak_kaayo

Walang question if you call father, yung biological father mo, pero questionable kapag spiritual father.  Isa lang po ang spiritual father, yung Dios na nasa langit.

      Bisdak_kaayo:

      Hindi naging malinaw sa
iyo ang buong chapter 23 ng Mateo. Ang tawag dito ng mga theologians ay
“Seven Woes” – which were the seven accusations of Jesus to the
Scribes and Pharisees. [Parallel to this is Luke’s similar narration – Luke
11:37-54 which has only six and is also called “Six Woes” but shorter
      than Matthew’s].

      Therefore, bossing, mali

      Because your
interpretation smacks of transliteration, I regret that you grew up with that
kind of wrong understanding and you have the gall to malign Catholics for that?
Sobra ka naman. Kung hindi ka Katoliko, wag mo!

      If you say you believe
in God, that is lip service. Faith without action is DEAD. How do you worship
God if you have no community? Jesus said, “If you love God but hate your
brother, you are telling a lie.” So, if you hate Catholics, you do not
      love God…gets mo?

      • Bisdak_kaayo

Ang contexto sa Matthew ay spiritual father, hindi sa biological father. Tama tawagin mong AMA ang tatay mo in the context that he is your biological father.

Yung pinagbabawal sa Matthew is in the context of Spiritual Father, nag iisa lang ang Spiritual Father, yung Diyos lang nasa langit.

Pero sa mga katoliko dalawa ang HOLY FATHER, isa nasa langit at yung isa nasa Roma.

      • CommonSens6

Tsismis lang na nong. I believe Catholics call him the Holy See not the Holy Father.

Let’s all meditate and concentrate all our energies and hidden forces toward Tagle’s success in capturing that throne in Rome.

Then, all the world can say,  “It’s FUN in the Philippines!”

    • rbrtsmith

what a fanatic.. what good does it brings to the poor, poverty and the philippines when tagle will be elected as pope? id rather have a dictator president who can alleviate the poor and general social status of the people that will eventually lead to prosperous and healthy nation than to have a pope.

Tagle makes no chance at all since he has been bred by the most conservative, backwards, polemic and theocratic faction of the Catholic church in the world. Look how they tried to sabotage the long needed RH bill for many years and how they are sharpening their knives now to keep a divorce bill out of reach of even non-Catholics.

What the church needs foremost is somebody to address the rampant secularity and rationality in the modern world and to unite, something the ultraconservative and belligerent Torquemada Tagle can’t do.

I don’t even believe in anything yet the most sensible thing I’ve heard about who will be the next Pope when asked by a BBC reporter: “if we truly believe in the Holy Spirit, it wouldn’t matter who the next Pope would be as he was chosen……yaddah” Sounds better when he said it and for a minute I was Catholic again. Just for a minute. I’m back to being a happy heathen again. Now Catholic Church that is other than conservative will never work. They cannot or should not water down the basic dogma since it will really be contrary to everything being a Catholic is. I’m surprised why many people want the Church to conform/follow to his/her own individual opinion when the point in itself is to follow the Church itself. If you don’t want it, leave. However the Church must really address these issues head-on. Buttbanging and kiddy-pickin’ priests must definitely head to the inquisitors. Forgiveness is with God. Is there one?

Tagle should be the next pontiff. Filipinos are more fanatic than any Catholic countries in the world. They nailed themselves in the cross. They revel in the Black Nazarene feast. Flagellation is well-practiced. A lot of tell-tales miracles of images and apparitions of Mary. Paedophiles and sexual abuses are not so many. Homosexualism in the priesthood is not too many compare to USA. The only question: Is he a straight? Just asking.

Okay they know that choosing a pope is by fumigation where names of prospective candidate are thrown and the first piece of paper with the name dropped in a goblet will be the pope. Maybe if they put a large fan in the mountainous garbage dumped in smokey mountain for years and years

Vatican City is a state which is headed by the pontiff. That makes it
different from the rest of the world where countries are either run by
presidents, prime ministers, chancellors, etc. But in all these, Vatican
included, are steered on by highly-charged politics. The conclave may
be peopled by cardinals whom many think are next to God in purity of
thoughts. Lest you get disappointed, they’re just as human as you and
me. They’re not immune to sins or in committing them. Cardinal Tagle
maybe desirable to succeed Cardinal Ratzinger coming from a country
where politics is a staple next only to rice. But Vatican’s hushed up
politics would eventually rule the conclave’s deliberations. Yes, there
will be incantation to the Supreme Being and there will be a lot of lip service in invoking the name of the Almighty but at the end of a long night’s hobnobs and concessions a consensus whom to write in the ‘ballot’ would be arrived at. A European cardinal is still most likely to succeed the resigned Pope Benedict XVI.

Ikaw naman… bigyan mo naman ng credit ang gawa ng Espiritu Santo. The Holy Spirit is at work… no matter how you see the cardinals as “politicians” in the Vatican… the Holy Spirit is still the one at work. It is God who chooses the next pope through the cardinals – and not the cardinals by themselves. If God wills it that a Filipino become the next pope… then so be it. And maybe you do not know this yet… the cardinals are not allowed to talk about who they will personally elect when the conclave starts – it is not like there is a “campaign” period… do not think that it is like an election of a government official of a country. It is a religious gathering of the leaders of the Catholic Church – a time of prayer. Basta kahit sino pa man ang mahalal na bagong Pope, the Catholics can  be sure that he is chosen by the Holy Spirit.

Of course! The Holy Spirit is always at work… I have no doubt about
it. To say that some popes are not divinely chosen is to say that the
Holy Spirit is not present. Whether the people learned or not… is
another story. But the Holy Spirit is always at work.

The Bible Based Theory. Twisted Truth by Protestant Fundamentalists and Pastors

Between what years were the first and last books of the New Testament written?

The first book, Saint Matthews Gospel, was not written until about ten years after Our Lord’s Ascension. Saint John’s fourth gospel and Apocalypse or Book of Revelations were not written until about 100 A.D.

Comment: Imagine how the present-day privately interpreted ‘Bible-only’ theory would have appeared at a time when the books of the New Testament were not only unavailable, but most of them had not yet been written.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/SPLUBLEOSERDBOIJTDOC6XIWGU mxsclxmxn

The Bible Based Theory. Twisted Truth by Protestant Fundamentalists and Pastors Who finally did decide which books were inspired and therefore belonged to the New Testament? Shortly before 400 A.D. a General Council of the Catholic Church, using the infallible authority which Christ had given to His own Divine institution, finally decided which books really belonged to the New Testament and which did not. Either the Church at this General Council was infallible, or it was not. If the Church was infallible then, why is it not infallible now? If the Church was not infallible then, in that case the New Testament is not worth the paper it is written on, because internal evidences of authenticity and inspiration are inconclusive and because the work of this Council cannot now be rechecked; this is obvious from reply to next question. Comment: In view of these historical facts, it is difficult to see how non-Catholics can deny that it was from the (Roman) Catholic Church that they received the New Testament.

Are You A Co-Worker Of A Church Perverting The True Gospel Of Jesus Christ?

The Bible says if any person or even an angel preach any other gospel or perverts Christ’s gospel, let him be cursed, Gal. 1:6-9. Are churches, professed Christians, and all of Christianity under the curse and judgment of Jesus Christ by preaching another gospel or perverting the gospel?

Today’s  teachers of Christianity have perverted the Gospel of the Kingdom of God, which is theGospel of Jesus Christ, and His message of salvation. Followers of confessed Christianity have twisted, corrupted and mis-directed God’s life-saving message  of salvation, which is the wonderful Good News about the true, revealed Savior, Jesus Christ sent to this earth from God and His kingdom.

The True Gospel is the Gospel that Jesus Christ himself preached; That is the coming Kingdom of God. For that purpose He was sent.

      – – – “” Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:14-15)

      – – – “”but He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.” (Luke 4:43)

Jesus Christ teach us how to pray – – “”Your Kingdom come””- – not came.
That is referring to the coming Kingdom of God. When Jesus Christ will be King of Kings and Lord of Lords

Jesus Christ three and a half years of ministry is not for every one to know the mystery of the Kingdom of God:

      – – – ””But when He was alone, those around Him with the twelve asked Him about the parable. And He said to them, “To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables, (Mark 4:10-12)

You’re relationship with the Almighty should be an intensely personal matter. You should not allow this to be dictated by priests, holy men, pastors, child abusers etc. You can subscribe to the teachings of JC, Allah, Buddha, Shinto etce etc. and it won’t matter… There is only one God for everyone. Salvation is not attained by how often you prayed, how you prayed or who you prayed to. It will be attained by the number of good deeds you have done, and the fact that you did this good deeds not because you wished to attain salvation, but because it was the right thing to do, without thinking about the rewards of your action….

“clearly a religious fanatic”… perhaps you should look at my other posts. your “clear” sight is as clouded as your mind. pathetic. i don’t go to church, if it makes it easier for you to understand. unlike you who has to go to church to please and preach/discourage others. like i said, get off your high horse.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/ESDFOMHLNYT6JLTY6IJHOGG64I igor

You speak as if what you are saying is the absolute truth. Do you  have an experience of being a priest/minister and being in charge of a church community? If you have, then I guess you are one of those who take money for yourself and use it for your own selfish wants – because you seem to be so sure that priests/pastors are doing that – then maybe you did it yourself. But if you are not a priest/pastor then you have no right to accuse all of them to be selfish and dishonest. Know that there are priests/pastors/ministers who are genuinely taking care of their flock.
You sir, are bearing false witness against people you do not know. Stop.

      • rbrtsmith

you see me as judgmental, and i presume you’re in denial. there might be some priest/pastor that genuinely takes care of their flock but majority of them lives by their member’s donations.. me bearing false witness, you in denial..

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/ESDFOMHLNYT6JLTY6IJHOGG64I igor

I never denied that priests/pastors live off of the people’s donations. They have no other means to support themselves. But to think that pastors do what they do just to feed their belly is wrong. But then I guess you are entitled to you opinions about priests/pastors – obviously you do not belong to any church community and have no respect or love for a minister/priest/pastor. As for me, I will always try to help my pastor for he truly does the work of God through his work in the community. A laborer deserves his rewards.

you must be a priest or a pastor. truth hurts.

      • Dieserweg

Yeah right, that is why there is so much corruption in this country.

    • boypalaban

can you prove that there is God?

      • Dieserweg

The burden of proof is with the atheists.  Since it is human instinct to believe in God, we don’t need any proof.  Those who make an assertion that there is none should prove it.

    • Dieserweg

      Says who?

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/ESDFOMHLNYT6JLTY6IJHOGG64I igor

Your theology… if that is theology… is wrong. Salvation is attained ONLY through God’s grace and mercy – not by any amount of good deeds whether done because it is right or not. There is a tendency for people to think that “as long as I believe in a god and I am doing good… I will be saved.” Wrong. Even Jesus said: “Not everyone who says to me ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven…” Even those who do not believe in God do good things because it is the right thing to do… if what you are saying is true then… why believe in God?

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/ESDFOMHLNYT6JLTY6IJHOGG64I igor

My reaction to your comment is not an uneducated reaction. Rude, it was and I apologize if you were insulted. But you seemed to belittle the doctrine on which the teachings of the Catholic Church rests. The Doctrine of Infallibility is always misunderstood by people who do not know what it is and they dismiss it as unimportant – you did that by associating it with ghosts, the tooth fairy, and santa calus. If you know what it is, you will not associate it with those things – and it is very foolish to say something about a topic that you know nothing about.
I have a degree in Economics from the University of the Philippines, I  have a degree in Theology, I have a Masters Degree in Divinity, I have a Masters degree in Pastoral Ministry.
Calling someone foolish is not a reflection of one’s standing in society (being “cultured” or not) and it is not a reflection of one’s educational background – even Jesus Christ used it to describe those who are lost.
Dawn… you said: “You’re the uncultured type that makes other nationalities debase this country.” I guess I can say the same for you.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/QPLGYULA5YKRMF3PLMPNDCITKQ Sir Ulrich Van Lichenstein

“Whoever will exalt himself will be humbled and whoever will humble himself will be exalted”. -Matthew 23:12

I believe that you are a learned individual based from your “educational background”. Even then, should it not be more prudent to explain to “Dawn” the meaning of infallability for her own education? Moreover, I believe she was just expressing her opinion.

The matter of religion have always been a subject that has caused humanity it’s share of anguish. Wars were fought; a lot of good people have died. This is the history of humankind from since time immemorial. Have we not learned from Jesus Himself?

He is the Son of God who humbled Himself for the sake of humanity.

Peace along with faith is the central dogma of Christianism. Without tolerance there can be no peace. Peace (Salam) is also what our muslim brothers preach. So, why is it that in this world, peace is such an endagered commodity?

Brothers and sisters, I believe that we should be able to learn and accept that although we degreed, learned and educated; we still have to learn tolerance through humility. After all, this is the core of Jesus’ life.

      Have a meaningful Lent.

Condescending? Can you please explain your point? Where was the condescending part?

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/ESDFOMHLNYT6JLTY6IJHOGG64I igor

Jesus did not tolerate those who were doing wrong things especially the Pharisees, the chief priests and the other leaders of the society in his time just so they can have peace… he often called them hypocrites and even referred to them as brood of vipers.
I will not allow my Faith and the teachings and doctrines I hold dear to be made fun of just so I can have peace. I have the duty to defend them from people who are trampling them underfoot. Defending the faith does not necessarily mean the absence of peace… but for sure, it means standing for what I believe in… it means standing for Jesus Christ.
In the process, I may seem to be arrogant and prideful – exulting myself. But I’d rather be judged arrogant and prideful than to be like the wicked, lazy servant who did nothing with the treasure that was given to him because of his fears and doubts.
May this holy season of Lent lead you to be strengthened in your faith… strong enough to defend it. Let not the “spirit of tolerance” reduce you to inactivity.
        Yes. Have a meaningful Lent.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/QPLGYULA5YKRMF3PLMPNDCITKQ Sir Ulrich Van Lichenstein

And so doing you subscribe to the idea of a crusade, a jihad and the holy war?

It seems that you mistook righteousness to rightist extremist view. This is the very reason for the crusades and the inquisition; the very dark ages of man’s history.

At present we are experiencing jihad in some parts of the world simply because one’s belief is “trampled” upon. The very essence of why Jesus emphasized for peace is that is the lesson to be learned from history.

It seems that you have never experienced the wrath of war. With your “degrees” and “education” in theology and pastoral discipline; I find it that you are no more than the like of the oppressive talibans. May you not see the day when you are humbled by your faith.

Benevolence and peace be upon you.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/ESDFOMHLNYT6JLTY6IJHOGG64I igor

You are wrong. You are operating on the belief that a person who is ready to defend his Christian faith is also ready to disregard the laws of love. As I have said, defending the faith does not necessarily mean the absence of peace. Why do you associate defending the doctrines of my faith with wars? Who said anything about the Jihad and the crusades? Defending my faith, if I need to explain it, does not mean taking up weapons and killing people. Wow! If that is what you think, then again, you are wrong. It means living the life of a true witness of Jesus Christ; being resilient when facing persecutions; having the courage to speak out when wronged; and even having the courage to die as a martyr when given the honor and opportunity for it. You defend it not to convert others but to protect yourself from losing it.

People of faith need to constantly commit to the teachings and doctrines of the God they are trying to follow. If a person of faith is ready to compromise his faith practices just so he can have “peace” then there’s something lacking in the way faith is lived. Humility is one thing, but the lack of desire to correct others who are making fun of the beliefs you have – in the name of tolerance and peace – is not acceptable. It puts you in danger of running away when there’s danger – the way the apostles did during Jesus’ arrest… it puts you in danger of not professing your faith in God when faced by fear… the way St. Peter denied ever knowing Jesus.

I am actually always looking forward to those times that I am brought to humility by the God I believe in – and it happens all the time. I hope they never stop because I know I need them.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/ESDFOMHLNYT6JLTY6IJHOGG64I igor

Please do not think that I am an advocate of war and violence. I pray that I may be ready and have the courage to be willing to die for my faith… but I will never kill nor wish for another to die just because they do not believe in what I believe in.
I wrote what I wrote in response to Dawn because I seriously believe that the Doctrine of Infallibility should not be made fun of… especially by those who do not know what it is. She expressed her opinions… but then let us remember that the Catholic faith is not based on opinions… and as I have said before… I have that duty to defend it – lest I lose my faith to being mediocre in practicing it or be indifferent to those that make fun of it.
Dawn said that I am uneducated and I am “uncultured” so I felt the need to let her know that I am educated. Now that I am reading back… it really looked arrogant… and prideful. But it was not my intention to exult myself. If it appeared like it… so be it.
May you be always be blessed… and may the peace of Christ be with you.

Saint Peter, the first pope was a simple fisherman. Pope John Paul II was 58 when he was elected. Pope Pius IX was 54. Read more my friend, Cardinal Tagle, as new in his post and as young as he is, he is a true “papabili” or papal contender, and that’s not according to Filipino sources but from respected Vatican watchers.

Though we know he has a “slim” chance, he is indeed qualified in every sense of the word.

Imagine how the present-day privately interpreted ‘Bible-only’ theory would have appeared at a time when the books of the New Testament were not only unavailable, but most of them had not yet been written.

    • GKLer

Let me give you a better picture than the one you have.

Mark covers the biblical events mainly from 29AD-33AD. It is believed Mark was completed in 60-65AD in Rome while Paul was imprisoned.  Luke covers the events from 3BC to 33AD. It was written likely in Caesarea and completed between 56-58AD -before- Acts was completed in 61AD (see Acts 1:1) while Luke was in Rome with Paul -after- he returned from Philippi with Paul at the end of the 3rd missionary journey -and while- Paul was waiting 2 years in prison at Caesarea.  John was likely written near or at Ephesus in 98AD. It covers “After prologue” and the period from 29-33AD. It is generally believed that John wrote his Gospel after his return from exile on Patmos. Emperor Nerva (96-98AD) recalled many who had been exiled during Emperor Domitian’s reign. John is believed to have died peacefully at Ephesus in the 3rd year of Emperor Trajan (100AD).  Matthew was completed circa 41AD. It covers what transpired from 2BC (~birth of Christ)  to 33AD. It was written in Hebrew, then later it was translated into Greek. It was written in Palestine, the exact year isn’t known, however – there is evidence in some manuscripts dating in the 10th century that point to 41AD.  Jerome (aka St. Jerome) in 380AD (Latin Vulgate Bible) translated the Bible into Latin from Hebrew OT and Greek NT.  Jerome stated that the Hebrew text of Matthew was preserved during his day (4th century).

People had access to written scriptures during the 1st century:

      1.  Here is an example that involved Paul:

Acts 17:11 “Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true”. IT SAYS “examined the Scriptures”. OBviously they read something that was written down. Just as Jesus did in the synagogues.

      2.  Here is an example that involved Jesus:

Luke 4:16-2116 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read,17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: 18“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,  because he has anointed me  to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners  and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,19   to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”[a]20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

The Bible Based Theory. Twisted Truth by Protestant Fundamentalists and Pastors

Was there any drastic difference between what Our Lord commanded the Apostles to teach and what the New Testament contains?

Our Lord commanded His Apostles to teach all things whatsoever He had commanded; (Matthew 28-20); His Church must necessarily teach everything; (John 14-26); however,  the Protestant Bible itself teaches that the Bible does not contain all of Our Lord’s doctrines:

John 20-30: And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book.

John 21-25: And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. How would it have been possible for second century Christians to practice Our Lord’s religion, if private interpretation of an unavailable and only partial account of Christ’s teaching were indispensable?

    • GKLer

The key is WHAT JESUS DID which would be from birth to 33AD. – Those weren’t written down. There’s no one around who can write them after 1st century was over either.

The difference between a protestant and catholic bible is really not that much.
I have 14 translations in parallel in excel format.

So whoever is telling you this doesn’t know his bible.

Scripture Alone Disproves “Scripture/Bible Alone Theory”

Gen. to Rev. – Scripture never says that Scripture is the sole infallible authority for God’s Word. Scripture also mandates the use of tradition. This fact alone disproves sola Scriptura.

Matt. 28:19; Mark 16:15 – those that preached the Gospel to all creation but did not write the Gospel were not less obedient to Jesus, or their teachings less important.

Matt. 28:20 – “observe ALL I have commanded,” but, as we see in John 20:30; 21:25, not ALL Jesus taught is in Scripture. So there must be things outside of Scripture that we must observe. This disproves “Bible alone” theology.

Mark 16:15 – Jesus commands the apostles to “preach,” not write, and only three apostles wrote. The others who did not write were not less faithful to Jesus, because Jesus gave them no directive to write. There is no evidence in the Bible or elsewhere that Jesus intended the Bible to be sole authority of the Christian faith.

Luke 1:1-4 – Luke acknowledges that the faithful have already received the teachings of Christ, and is writing his Gospel only so that they “realize the certainty of the teachings you have received.” Luke writes to verify the oral tradition they already received.

John 20:30; 21:25 – Jesus did many other things not written in the Scriptures. These have been preserved through the oral apostolic tradition and they are equally a part of the Deposit of Faith.
Acts 8:30-31; Heb. 5:12 – these verses show that we need help in interpreting the Scriptures. We cannot interpret them infallibly on our own. We need divinely appointed leadership within the Church to teach us.

Acts 15:1-14 – Peter resolves the Church’s first doctrinal issue regarding circumcision without referring to Scriptures.

Acts 17:28 – Paul quotes the writings of the pagan poets when he taught at the Aeropagus. Thus, Paul appeals to sources outside of Scripture to teach about God.

1 Cor. 5:9-11 – this verse shows that a prior letter written to Corinth is equally authoritative but not part of the New Testament canon. Paul is again appealing to a source outside of Scripture to teach the Corinthians. This disproves Scripture alone.

1 Cor. 11:2 – Paul commends the faithful to obey apostolic tradition, and not Scripture alone.

    • GKLer

Your personal interpretations are grossly incorrect.

I will make this simple for you:

      1. We know scripture is from God – 2500 prophecies, 2000 have come true so far.
      2. Salvation and eternal life is from God not Man.
      3.  Man is corruptible and DOES NOT provide salvation, eternal life, the Way, the Truth and the Life.
      4. If it is not directly from God – it is therefore QUESTIONABLE.

      1 Timothy 3:16-17
16 ALL Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be THOROUGHLY equipped for every good work.

      Q. Do you understand what “ALL SCRIPTURE IS GOD BREATHED?”
      Q. Do you understand what “THOROUGHLY EQUIPPED” means?

      • GKLer

This is the reason you cannot put your faith in Man or Man’s works.
        Man is not infallible.

        Psalm 146 (NASB)
3 DO NOT trust in princes,In mortal man, in whom there is NO SALVATION 4His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; In that very day his thoughts perish.

        Romans 3
23 for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

    • GKLer

mxsclxmxn says:  Gen. to Rev. – Scripture never says that Scripture is the sole infallible authority for God’s Word. Scripture also mandates the use of tradition. This fact alone disproves sola Scriptura.

Me:  READ 2 Timothy 3:16-17.  Says ALL Scripture = THOROUGHLY EQUIPPED

mxsclxmxn says:  Matt. 28:19; Mark 16:15 – those that preached the Gospel to all creation but did not write the Gospel were not less obedient to Jesus, or their teachings less important.Matt. 28:20 – “observe ALL I have commanded,” but, as we see in John 20:30; 21:25, not ALL Jesus taught is in Scripture. So there must be things outside of Scripture that we must observe. This disproves “Bible alone” theology.

Me:  READ John 20:30,21:25  It say “Jesus did many things….not recorded”.   It simply says it wasn’t recorded. It didn’t record everything that happened to Jesus from birth to 33AD.  NO ONE ELSE is around to write about it either after 100A.D.  IT DOESN’T DISPROVE anything.  READ and compare with Deuteronomy 29:29

mxsclxmxn says: Mark 16:15 – Jesus commands the apostles to “preach,” not write, and only three apostles wrote.

Me:  NO.  First, STOP inserting your words into the verse.  READ the bible as it is.  READ Matthew 5:17-20 to learn why.  Next, MORE than three apostles wrote.  Mark, Matthew, Luke, Peter, John, later Paul.

mxsclxmxn says: The others who did not write were not less faithful to Jesus, because Jesus gave them no directive to write. There is no evidence in the Bible or elsewhere that Jesus intended the Bible to be sole authority of the Christian faith.

Me:  READ 2 Timothy 3:16-17  READ Matthew 5:17-20

mxsclxmxn says:  Luke 1:1-4 – Luke acknowledges that the faithful have already received the teachings of Christ, and is writing his Gospel only so that they “realize the certainty of the teachings you have received.” Luke writes to verify the oral tradition they already received.John 20:30; 21:25 – Jesus did many other things not written in the Scriptures. These have been preserved through the oral apostolic tradition and they are equally a part of the Deposit of Faith.

Me:  Deposit of Faith??  If it wasn’t recorded by the disciples of Christ then it wasn’t as John 20:30 and 21:25 says so.  Don’t assume it was written somewhere 500 years later.  Because it wasn’t.  We are talking about what Christ did from birth to 33AD and since he did so much, they couldn’t write it all down.  That’s it.  Nothing more to it.  You have no proof it was passed down orally.  Oral tradition is easily corruptible.

mxsclxmxn says:  Acts 8:30-31; Heb. 5:12 – these verses show that we need help in interpreting the Scriptures. We cannot interpret them infallibly on our own. We need divinely appointed leadership within the Church to teach us.

Me:  Yes we all need help.  But the verse didn’t say we need “divinely appointed leadership within the Church”.  Once again, don’t add or remove anything from the Bible. Read it as it is.

mxsclxmxn says:  Acts 15:1-14 – Peter resolves the Church’s first doctrinal issue regarding circumcision without referring to Scriptures.

Me:  First READ Acts 15:7-8.  It says God made a choice….message….Holy Spirit.  That’s sounds a lot like Scripture.  Next:  “Law of Moses = Scripture”.  Lastly, we are talking about Peter here – blessed with the Holy Spirit.  We are not Peter.

mxsclxmxn says:  Acts 17:28 – Paul quotes the writings of the pagan poets when he taught at the Aeropagus. Thus, Paul appeals to sources outside of Scripture to teach about God.

Me:  First READ Acts 17:1-34 so you know the context.  Paul saw there were many idols so he CRITICIZED them. It says Paul was teaching about Jesus and the resurrection.  Next, Paul knew what he was doing as he was blessed with Holy Spirit.  We are not Paul.  Today there are many teachings outside of Scripture that do not agree with teachings in the Bible.  So be careful with “outside” sources.  What we need to know about God and Christ ARE IN the Bible.  Refer to 2 Timothy 3:16-17, John 17:3, Deuteronomy 29:29, Deuteronomy 18:22 etc…

mxsclxmxn says:  1 Cor. 5:9-11 – this verse shows that a prior letter written to Corinth is equally authoritative but not part of the New Testament canon. Paul is again appealing to a source outside of Scripture to teach the Corinthians. This disproves Scripture alone.

Me:  It doesn’t disprove anything. Compare and READ 2 Thessalonians 3, Galatians 5.  Next, we are talking about Paul here.  We are not Paul.  He was chosen by Jesus, and he is blessed with Holy Spirit.

mxsclxmxn says: 1 Cor. 11:2 – Paul commends the faithful to obey apostolic tradition, and not Scripture alone.

Me:  Compare and READ what Paul said in Colossians 2:8  Be careful with “human tradition”.

ME:  None of the verses you sighted proves “Not scripture alone”.  On the other hand, READ 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that says ALL Scripture = THOROUGHLY EQUIPPED

      2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,17 so that the servant of God[a] may be —THOROUGHLY EQUIPPED— for every good work.

Everyone must accept Jesus as their own “personal Lord
and Savior” The language “accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior”
is indicative of certain traditions within Christianity in America.

By “personal” they mean you as an individual as opposed to
you as a member of a group. By “accept” they mean to emphasize you choosing,
you deciding (or not) to be a disciple of Jesus and verbally and publicly
acknowledge Jesus as your “Lord” (the master of your life) and “Savior” (the
one who rescued you from sin and death). Once you have made such a public
profession of your faith, then you are a candidate for baptism (called
“believer’s baptism”) by these pastor protestants.

    The emphasis
on the individual has more to do with American individualism than it does
biblical faith. It all started in America!

No matter how it is thought of, nothing can rationalize Jesus
being an individual’s “personal” lord and savior. No matter what
protestant mean by this, it is all INCORRECT!

Jesus has been our savior for everyone and He has died for
each one of us. You can’t emphasized so much to say the He is your personal
lord and savoir because His death is for all of us sinners. There is no
exclusion. He is not only for me,
He is for all of us!

    All these rhetorics are formulas
made by pastors to justify their false beliefs!

i wonder if tagle could win race to papacy as 2 thirds of papabiles r from europe though the catholic population predominantly is of south american n african continents. presumably pope benedict has installed 37 cardinals most of whom r europians. then does an asian, south american or african have a chance unless the holy spirit really inspires to choose the worthiest.
if the worthiest is chosen we should pray hard that his fate wont b that of john paul 1.
