Malacañang is urging state employees to “actively take part” in activities marking the 27th anniversary of the 1986 Edsa People Power Revolution.

President Benigno Aquino III will highlight this year’s celebration by signing on Monday the Human Rights Victims Reparation and Recognition Act of 2013, a landmark legislation dealing with the atrocities committed by the Marcos dictatorship.

In a memorandum circular, Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. called on all civil servants, including those in government-owned and -controlled corporations, as well as local government units, “to engage in the activities prepared to commemorate the 27th Edsa People Power anniversary.”

Ochoa, who chairs the Edsa People Power Commission (EPPC), asked local government units to hold their own activities to commemorate the event.

‘Salubungan’

“The Edsa event demonstrates how we care and share as a people, as it likewise proves that Filipinos are capable of great courage in moments of overwhelming adversity,” Ochoa said in a statement.

The activities include the “Salubungan” of the military and civilians to “highlight how both can work together to achieve a common goal,” Ochoa said.

In the actual Salubungan, ordinary citizens and members of the religious sector marched together on Edsa in 1986 and met rebel soldiers to stop military tanks and convince other soldiers to join them in their uprising against Marcos.

Open house in camps

The Salubungan commemoration will be held simultaneously on Monday in Manila, Virac, Dumaguete and Zamboanga.

Other events include the opening up of military camps and police offices to the public to celebrate their roles in the success of the revolt, and the holding of parades in various localities.

Mr. Aquino will attend a flag-raising ceremony at the People Power monument on Edsa on Monday, the culmination of the three-day commemoration which has for its theme, “Pilipinas Natin, Abot-tanaw na!”

In the afternoon, Malacañang will welcome children from various orphanages to the Kalayaan grounds from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Today, former President Fidel V. Ramos, one of the main players of the revolution, will lead a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Lessons of Edsa revolt

In cooperation with the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges Student Network-National Capital Region, the EPPC will hold a fun run at Edsa on Sunday.

Education Secretary Armin Luistro said special learning modules on the lessons of the Edsa revolution would be introduced this week in all public elementary and secondary schools as the Department of Education’s contribution to the commemoration.

“Edsa People Power is about freedom, democracy and unity which we should always protect and cherish,” Luistro said as he stressed the importance of teaching history to the next generation.

The modules were developed by the National Educators Academy of the Philippines. With reports from Michael Lim Ubac and Dona Z. Pazzibugan

The real reason why Feb 25 is not declared a holiday this year is because of the low turnout in last year’s commemoration. At the height of the Corona impeachment trial in 2012, no more than 200 pax attended the celebration last year. There were no clouds to rain on the parade. Not much sun to make it unbearably hot. It was breezy enough to not need a fan or handkerchief. And yet, the usual crowd was nowhere to be found. But then again, it’s been that way for many years now since the Ramos years. The excitement over EDSA 1 commemoration has largely waned off since 1991 onward. Largely due to disappointment over Cory’s ineffectual presidency and the realization that a nation may have expected too much from a housewife. It was a painful disillusionment for many to say the least.

This year, declaring Feb 25 a holiday would only draw more attention to the empty chairs and sparse crowd congregating around the EDSA 1 shrine. With Paquito Ochoa urging gov’t employees to attend, mas nakakawalang gana talaga. Paquito Ochoa pa of all people.

What for ? U would just be using the celebration  FOR YOUR  POLITICAL CAMPAIGN…

  • maypakialamtayo

WHAT is there to celebrate ?… in fact the PEOPLE should MOURN for death of democracy ..substituted by ANARCHY…you cant change HISTORY no MATTER how much DISTORTING you would like to window dressed it….like what ninoy did to the COUNTRY  by exposing the govt secret claimof sabah in 1968…

from 1968 to 1986 the beginning & finalization of PHILIPPINE degredation to the ABYSS of POVERTY & CHAOS..now 2013..just look around sans the propaganda & paid surveys..just compare criminality, poverty, unemployment & prices of everything from 1986 to present..the AQUINOS promises for 27 years for progress, peace & prosperity are ALL LIES & they put us in this dire situation ….so sad…

    WHAT is HISTORY TELLING US!

    TIMELINE…

“The opinion of 10,000 men is of no value if none of them know anything about the subject.”– Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor from 121-180 A.D.

1861.. from CHINA to RP…..change of name…..the Cojuangco family can be traced back to Hong Chian( hongjian FARMERS village ) in Tongan province, China. Former President Cory Aquino’s,great grandfather was the first generation of the Cojuangco clan that came to the Philippines in 1861. His actual chinese name, Mr. Co Yu Hwan change his name to Mr. Jose Cojuangco.

1900 Philippine revolution- ysidra cojuanco, BECAME one of the RICHEST at age 32

Part One: Seeking the Holy Grail on Good Friday ( just google it )
” Encarnacion a friend and confidant of Dońa Ysidra, she is also the daughter of Eulalio Saulo who confirmed to her the story as one of the military escorts of the gold shipment to Ysidra. As far as we know this is the first direct evidence of a Cojuangco (and Ysidra at that) admitting what many Luna contemporaries long alleged, that the source of the Cojuangco fortune was the gold commandeered by Luna and regularly turned over to Ysidra. The combined assets controlled by the Cojuangcos total about P200 billion. To recover such wealth under Article 11, section 15 of the 1987 Constitution, one must go to court, and pay a filing fee of half a percent of the amount to be recovered, or P1 billion unrefundable win or lose. Who has that kind of money to risk ? ”

1900 Antonio Luna-Cojuangco Affair.alleged .DIVERTION of REPUBLIC’s FUNDS (now called PLUNDER o PANDARAMBONG ) ..see their story ..REVOLUTIONARY GOVT of AGUINALDO easily LOST to AMERICANS due to the MISSING REPUBLIC’s TREASURE that should be USED for buying FOOD & MEDICINES as well as for paying soldiers & recruits…

1944 JAPANESE Collaboration ( MAKAPILI tawag sa mga pilipinong TRAYDOR dati )-Benigno Aquino SR…..captured in japan & sent here in the Philippines charged with TREASON !

1968 SABAH-exposed the RE-TAKING by marcos … Benigno” NINOY” Aquino Jr. he is a a FRIEND of malaysian leaders,on his clandestine with fake passports ( not heroic in fact that is a crime on itself ) return to RP;(wikipedia) —-Logan International Airport on August 13, 1983, took a circuitous route home from Boston, via Los Angeles to Singapore. In Singapore, then Tunku Ibrahim Ismail of Johor met Aquino upon his arrival in Singapore and later brought him to Johor to meet with other Malaysian leaders Once in Johor, Aquino met up with Tunku Ibrahim’s father, Sultan Iskandar, who was a close friend to Aquino..

NO WONDER ..pres. cory & noynoy will not claim sabah..AQUINOS are friends of malaysian leaders.. SABAH has the potential to produce 1 million barrels of oil a day,”The estimated reserves from the present Sabah oilfields is 1.4 billion barrels of oil and 7.7 trillion scf of gas.”
NINOY Aquino was imprisoned on charges of murder and subversion. He was found GUILTY of subversion and sentenced to death in November 1977. ( MARCOS the MERCIFUL )This was commuted into exile to allow a humanitarian medical treatment in the United States in 1980, accompanied by his wife. According to some through the efforts of Imelda Marcos convinced Pres. Marcos to be merciful..International media called marcos the merciful…even US president bush & reagan were FANs of marcos

1987 SPRATLY-cory aquino allowed entry of china in spratly islands..and in 1988 went to her RELATIVES in china & celebrated with them instead of DEFENDNG or filng a protest against china intrussion…and in 1988 ENTRY of chinese WARSHIP in ur territory and established outpost there….NOW they are claming the WHOLE SCS..CORY ADMINISTRATION …freed all TOP communist & mulim rebels & members…then WAR ensued in all fronts….DEATHs abounds…REBELS group now became strong enough and asking TERRITORies in the south ( milf ) & CPP asking the pnoy govt to be PARTNERS in governance..the cojuanco-aquino clan .until now after 27 years of PROMISES of progress, peace & prosperity ..are NOWHERE to be found…despite daily propaganda & paid surveys …only their KKK’s became richer & richer day by day …

If we take a CLOSER SCRUTINY …WHY RP is so POOR now…1968 is the SOURCE of the EVIL CALVARY & CAUSE of UNENDING CHAOS…..it was in 1968 NINOY divulged the marcos reclaim for sabah, in 1968 muslim rebellion begun, in 1968 MNLF were established & ALSO in 1968 CPP-NPA was established…LO & BEHOLD …rubbing salt to injury for peaceful loving citizensshe freed them in 1986….ninoy started it & cory FREED the enemies of the STATE ( who killed hundred of thousand citizens & govt forces & displaced MILLIONS of families ) ……ninoy was RUMORED as both a Communist stooge and a CIA agent at that time… just draw your own conclusion….america & western powers at that time cant get marcos approval to SIPHONED DEUTERIUM because it will be disadvantageous to the country…

however in 1986 just months after they toppled marcos in 1986 ….CORY govt wanted immediately to harvest deuterium …cory hurriedly went to state visit to america which enrile allegedly asked her ..did they PROMISE you ANYTHING ? of course she fired ENRILE after that… but RAM boys went to regular & routine coups ..& the REDS are becoming more INFLUENTIAL & more POWERFUL in the CORY govt….AFP forces loyal to marcos are still there ..MNLF became more POWERFUL…..with the POLITICAL uncertainties..foreign powers suspended their interest in phil. DEUTERIUM..

NOW are you WONDERING why for the FIRST TIME in ANALS of WORLD HISTORY a so called REVOLUTION is BLOODLESS? ..because it is NOT a revolution it is a DESIGN with FOREIGN ARCHITECTS….the LANDSCAPE is DEUTERIUM…in fact during SNAP election marcos won over cory he got 10.8 million votes while cory ONLY got 9.2 million votes ….who says marcos cheated….. namfrel & technicians.. but who handled them ? who feeds them the data ?…. why US senator LUGAR & 44 americans were here during elections ? election OBSERVERS or more than observers.. ?

CORY ALLOWED CHINA intrusion in 1987 to our Kagitingan Reef then ..they are NOW CLAIMING the whole SCS. The Geology and Mineral Resources Ministry of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has estimated that the Spratly area holds oil and natural gas reserves of 17.7 billion tons (1.60 × 1010 kg), as compared to the 13 billion tons (1.17 × 1010 kg) held by Kuwait, placing it as the fourth largest reserve bed in the world. These large reserves assisted in intensifying the situation and propelled the territorial claims of the neighboring countries. While vietnam fought china and regain their territory ..CORY instead of sending the navy as what marcos did..choose to celebrate with her BLOOD RELATIVES in china. She also lighted incense at the altar of the Ancestral Temple of the Xu (Co) Clan. She was quoted as having remarked “I am the President, but I am also the daughter of Hongjian Village” ( news item )

    • LO & BEHOLD..what is the CONNECTION of SABAH & HACIENDA LUISITA, MUSLIM REBELLION , MNLF REBELLION & CPP-NPA REBELLION..? what is the the connection of AQUINOS & LEADERS of MALAYSIA ?…………. ANSWER 1968…………..
.HACIENDA LUISITA was planned to be RETURNED & distributed to the FARMERS by MARCOS in 1968 ( The government’s first follow-up letter was written by Conrado Estrella of the Land Authority on March 2, 1967 …HACIENDA LUISITA ( 6,400 hectares ) the root of political & economic turbulence..the DECLINE of everything good for Filipino..& deprivation and injustice to the farmers 1968 to 2013 )…NINOY DIVULGED the MARCOS SABAH RECLAIM plan in 1968, MUSLIM rebellion begun in 1968, MNLF was ESTABLISHED in 1968, & CPP-NPA established in 1968…adding insult to the peaceful citizens…

2012 spratly & panatag Islands- Pnoy aquino- visited china in 2011 AFTER his ELECTION in 2010..he said to his relatives ” if one is to move forward, one must know how to look back. So I would like to thank the people of Hongjian—all my distant cousins, aunts, and uncles—for their warm welcome, and for being among the many who give me the strength to carry on and succeed,” ..china established a govt over the islands after backdoor negotiations on july 2012 …..just recently 10/2012 pnoy-MALAYSIA-milf peace deal.( why is MALAYSIA so interested in MILF TERRITORY ? )…they just talk to one small rebel group yet they already call it peace while there are plenty more rebel armed groups in the same area… consider it already a political entity bangsamoro..a new state..giving away territories not even within his power to give!

Now 2013..Sulu Sultanate ARMY made a SUICIDE & PATRIOTIC move & RAISED PHILPPINE FLAG in SABAH and making a RE-CLAIM of NATIONAL TERRITORY & SOVEREIGNTY for the people……which the govt of pnoy should be doing ..instead PNOY govt is COLLABORATING with MALAYSIA ( territory grabber & INSATIABLE LOOTER of our resources ) for the RETURN of the hapless PATRIOTIC FILIPINO CITIZENS who are DOING the SWORN DUTIES of the GOVT…protection of sovereignty & territorial integrity , to serve & protect the people as prime duties of govt under the CONSTITUTION..!

From FMarcos, Cory, FVR, Erap, GMA to the present PNoy.. remove Erap and GMA from the equation and the EDSA People Power Revolution should certainly be a great episode and legacy worthy of celebration. Erap and GMA were actually the spoilers of an otherwise wonderful chapter in our nation’s history.

Anyway, I personally believe that the EDSA event and the full restoration of democracy have brought our nation more good than harm, and a brighter future henceforth.

    MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS!!

After 1986 EDSA revolution, our foreign loans skyrocketed from Billions of Pesos to Trillions of Pesos and until now Political dynasties and corruption still exists..

For being no. 1 in ASIA before EDSA revolution, ngayon kulelat na sa ASEAN pa lang.
EDSA celebration is now only being used for political campaigns.Nasayang lang ang pinaglaban ni NINOY.. Ninoy started the revolution and the Filipino people, church and rebel soldiers finished it.It’s very dis-appointing that our country did not prosper after the EDSA revolution. But I’m still hoping that someday a great leader will rise in our country. A President who is really against corruption and Pol-Dynasty.. Who is really serious in helping the poor, solving the unemployment, strengthening our military and leveling up our education. We need an intelligent, honest and working President.. hindi yun puro pamumulitika lang ang ginagawa.

Cory Constitution was the result of EDSA I.  Unfortunately, it didn’t serve the ECONOMIC PURPOSE, but the oligarch’s perpetual control of the economy.  The euphoric atmosphere of “fake freedom” was staged, but the real “economic freedom” for the Filipinos and the Philippines has not been achieved.  The oligarchs maintained the status quo.  They thrived during the Marcos era, and they managed to thrive under the Cory Constitution.  Her son managed to play around the provisions and play god with it, at his vindictive advantage only.
Electricity, water, roads, bridges, school buildings, health and all of the basic services that the government is tasked to do, as the reason for its existence, is being “privatized” to the disadvantage of the poorest of the poor.  Oligarch’s investments have been well-protected and the burdens have been passed to the citizenry.
All were “smoke & mirrors”…nothing has been changed.  Drama’s and brainwashing has been the daily menu for the poor, and lo and behold, they’ve become yellows!
    Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Regardless of what he does as the President, he should not be URGING. It should be celebrated every year with the biggest bang ever, automatically. There has to be a law to declare the anniversary days as Legal Holidays.

Everyone should celebrate and respect the EDSA anniversary celebration. The People Power of 1986 was just too powerful to be taken slightly or or granted.

Our democracy of present times and our freedom would not be here to enjoy without the effort of millions of Pinoys who were there fighting Marcos and his dictatorship in February 1986. Am proud to be one of those who sacrificed everything watching and guarding Camp Crame and Camp Aguinaldo against the forces of Marcos.

It was the last mark of a true REVOLUTION to restore democracy in our country. Nothing can beat the original EDSA People Power so far, hopefully it would be the last frontier in our quest for true democracy leading to our country’s economic progress.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_DKHID3EEHTG27U5JXRIIUVKXQA Jose Rizal

There’s no “true democracy” over EDSA I.  It’s just the euphoria…majority of the Filipinos has suffered the increase in the basic services that are supposed to be the object of the government.  Everything is being unloaded to the citizenry.  The VAT, the Toll, the price adjustment for the losses on loans for electricity and water, transport (MRT/LRT), fuel, and so on and so forth.
Who should be grateful? Ans:  Only the oligarchs and Noynoy!
      HAhahahahahahaha!

I was not complaining to the government that time because I was happy with the country status that time. When my neighour a farmer went to heart hospital for transplant it was free all shouldered by the government including the medicine and you know another neighbor of mine went to kidney hospital it was free also again shouldered by the government. I witnessed personally because i sent them to the hospital. That time also, rice were many and very cheap our neighbor farmers were very happy because the water irrigation were supplied by the government including free education about farming to Filipino farmers by the government. It was like fiesta in our place a lot of fresh foods fruits vegetables everyday and there were peace in our place no one ever tried to create problems all were focused on our good future. Suddenly few people in edsa voiced out because they wanted democracy. After people power and with your new system of government all government services including hospitals and farming education, water irrigation were not free. All now with charges and continue to increase over time there is no control now most people were undisciplined.
