MANILA, Philippines—The Sandiganbayan has ordered the arrest of Panglima Estino, Sulu, Mayor Munib Estino on charges of homicide and obstruction of justice that were filed in the Office of the Ombudsman last month.

Also ordered arrested was Estino’s bodyguard, PO2 Hector Abubakar, who has been charged in the shooting death of Mannan Badang on Feb. 22, 2010, during an argument inside the temporary town hall. Panglima Estino is a fifth-class municipality in Sulu.

The antigraft court’s First Division chairman, Associate Justice Efren de la Cruz, signed the arrest orders dated Feb. 1 and set Estino’s bail at P40,000 for the homicide case and P12,000 for the second criminal charge.

Estino, a former vice governor of Sulu, was accused of fatally shooting Badang during a hearing on a family dispute.

I am sure Estino is not an LP candidate, but has a strong chance of winning.

Are you saying that the administration has a penchant for suing / harrassing political opponents by using the law? Filing nuisance claims in court so that opposition can be painted black, and at the same time have to divide resources while campaigning?

what i am sure is that if justice dela cruz issued a warrant of arrest there is really a probable cause and not because of politics…

“Panglima Estino is a fifth-class municipality in Sulu.” Yun bang fourth class ay Pang-apat Estino at yung third class e Pangatlo Estino and so on? Just curious. Can’t find it in Google.

i like your humor, pre. it shows your awareness. i think practice yan in that part of the country that they can easily create municipalities, and usually the municipalities created are named after the politicians or the ruling class of the area.
