MANILA, Philippines—Albay Governor Joey Salceda said Tuesday it may be a “first time in history of public governance” that a problem was announced to the public without a prepared solution in mind.

Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla earlier announced that the electricity in Albay may be cut off after the Albay Electric Cooperative failed to settle its unpaid obligations of about P4 billion.

(Why would you announce a crisis that you haven’t solved? Are you going to let the public solve it when they know nothing about it?) ” Salceda said.

  • rjimenez1226

Sabihin mo  it is the  fist time in publi service history na may gana pang magreklamo ang may utang. Responsibilidad mo yan, Mr Salcdeda i-s olve mo.

May geothermal energy, may coal deposits, sana they can use the coconut processing waste for bio-mass power generation.

Isantambak kayong mga bobo. Mga provincial leaders na always minding politics and how to steal money from the public coffers, walang vision, wala kahit imagination.

All local government officials should know how to make and present project proposals. The mayor is on garbage disposal, potable water supply, general sanitation and community food production. The police should actively take care of peace and order. The governor should plan on how to modernize the province. Their feasibility studies/project proposals, they can have their useless congressman present them for funding.

The government must solve the problem of potential energy crisis before it becomes a real crisis. In the first place why an electric cooperative accumulate P4 billion pesos of debts? Is it being mismanaged? Does it have operating costs deficit than profits? Who has the power to fire the head of that electric cooperative for not managing the finacial status well before it accumulated billions of debt? How can we prevent this problem to occur, who can give stand by assistance for ailing electric cooperative that if shuts down will give a shock wave of down fall to the economy? The system must be resolved.

  • boybakal

There is no crisis, no power crisis it is DEBT that should be paid.

  • speedstream2

Why are some electric cooperatives in the hole? A thorough investigation is in order with a view to crafting a lasting solution, one that is, to use a tired cliche, a win-win one.
