Liloan mayor’s uncle shot in the head

CEBU CITY, Philippines—An uncle of Mayor Vincent Franco Frasco of  Liloan, Cebu, was shot in the head while he was reading a newspaper outside a convenience store before 8 a.m. on Tuesday, police said.

Marlito “Titi” Cañete was rushed to a hospital in Cebu City, according to Liloan Police station chief Senior Inspector Leo Ty, but he could not say what the condition of the victim was.

Ty said Cañete was reading a newspaper outside a convenience store beside  Titay’s Rosquillos in Barangay Poblacion at 7:47 a.m.  when two men on a motorcycle arrived. One of the men approached Cañete and shot him in the head.

The gunman then went back to the waiting motorcycle and both men then left the area.

Ty said police recovered one empty shell of a .45-caliber pistol from the crime scene.

He said the police had yet to determine the motive and identify the suspects.

Ty said the police have not been updated on the condition of Cañete.
