Bystanders maul theft suspect in Mandaue City

A 19-YEAR-OLD man was mauled by a group of bystanders who allegedly caught him snatching the shoulder bag of a woman in barangay Cambaro, Mandaue City.
Mark Anthony Anciano, a resident of barangay T. Padilla, Cebu City, sustained bruises all over the body.
Anciano was accused of trying to steal the bag of Ana Luna Corbo, 19, a resident of barangay Talamban, Cebu City.
Police said Corbo was waiting for a ride home in A.C. Cortes Avenue past midnight yesterday when a man grabbed her bag.
Corbo was dragged to the ground when she refused to let go of the bag,.
Police said the man overpowered the woman and ran away with the victim;s bag.
Corbo shouted for help, catching the attention of bystanders.
After a brief chase, bystanders cornered Anciano and mauled him.
The beating was stopped when barangay tanods from barangay Ibabao-Estancia arrived.
Tanods brought Anciano to the Opao police station.
At the police station, the woman recovered her bag containing P500 cash, an ATM card and a cellular phone worth P5,000.
The suspect was later brought to the Mandaue City Hospital for treatment./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
