Witness in ‘used choppers’ controversy seeks Senate protection
MANILA, Philippines — A witness, who would allegedly implicate former First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo into the alleged irregular purchase of second hand helicopters to the Philippine National Police, has asked for protection and immunity from suits from the Senate.
Immediately after the resumption of the hearing by the blue ribbon committee on Tuesday, Archivald
Legaspi Po, president of Lion Air, Inc. requested the committee for protection and immunity from criminal prosecution in exchange for his testimony.
On Senate Juan Ponce-Enrile’s question, Po said he needed protection because he was receiving death threats.
“Have you received any threats?” Enrile asked.
“Yes, your honor…I have some people going around my place. Things to that effect,” Po said.
Po was described as the “man of
the hour” by Senator Teofisto Guingona III, chairman of the blue ribbon committee.
